How long does it take for background checks and live scans take for new applications normally? Did my interview in early Jan and not a peep since then. No confirmation at all if they recieved my employment verification, either.

Good luck...it will take about 9 months to be cleared or not. I'm still waiting since beginning of December n nothing yet. All I know there was a hold at the range for a month because of the pandemic. I know there r back in business n who knows for when the call comes.

Pre-pandemic, it typically took around 3 months after you were live scanned.

Not sure how long it currently takes for new applicants.

Under CA laws, the issuing agency needs to notify an applicant within 90 days of receiving the application or within 30 days of receiving the results of applicant's criminal background check from CA DOJ, which ever takes longer. [PC 26205]
^Per CA DOJ BOF, both clocks starts when the applicant is live scanned/fingerprinted.

Hi folks, so I just had my interview today, and although I was a little nervous, it went pretty well! I was in and out in about 30 minutes.

Now the waiting game starts. Not really worried about the background check since I received a non resident ccw from another state earlier this year. My only real concern is the employer form, just because I don't think they're very 2A friendly. Would my employer not responding to that form be an issue?

Looking forward to the next steps. Thanks to everyone on here for being so informative and sharing their experiences!

I applied in early Aug '21, had my interview in mid Oct '21 and did my range day in mid March '22.

Between each of those steps was silence, they are dealing with so many applications that they don't have time to keep everyone updated on where they are in line. Patience is key.

Suggest you have a chat with your employer ASAP- before the county contacts them. That way you control the narrative and they don't get hit cold turkey and have to answer on the fly.

I don't really see why employers should even be contacted, other than as a personal reference- how to do that without jacking your job rep eludes me.

A bit behind on the post but here are my experiences with getting my ccw in San Bernardino County.

                Initial apply online - march 22th 2021
Interview - 6/14/21 (was missing a specific notary so had to reschedule interview)
                2nd Interview - 9/27/21
Received email to scheduled for class - 2/16/22
Class completed - 3/13/22 got my card a week later

Overall experience was great, but just slow. Mistake on my part for missing a paperwork for the initial interview. Understand that with everyone trying to get a ccw now it is going to take a while. All the sheriffs and staff at SBSD is really friendly and chill, they actually teach you some useful stuff.

GL to everyone who is still in the process of getting their ccw

for anyone else waiting, the firearms portion of my background was finally completed after 2 months. unsure when i should get a call back but at least that is over with.

How do you verify when each background check is done?

What exactly is covered in the class. Is it just a CCW familiarity course etc?
