Johnny Mac, we love ya' man but how can you allow this to happen? During a time when we need our right to carry more than ever? This is really disturbing. My friends have no intention of not carrying by the way. As we release criminals and screw over the citizens, we further infrings on the 2A. My permit expires next Feb, I'm okay... because I'll be a full time TN resident by then, but by God how can this be okay with you Sheriff?
The sheriff doesn't make these types of decisions (to a certain degree). He states this very clearly in the renewal training videos released a few days ago. It was actually a very solid speech and I have much respect for the man after hearing all this. He very much understands that we need our CCW rights more than ever but it is out of his hands.

The California DOJ determines the requirements of CCW laws for our state. That includes training requirements, renewal, not being able to provide "extensions" to permits, etc.

While this should be no surprise, I just got a call telling me my May renewal class in Rancho Cucamonga has been canceled. Was not given any option for online training videos. Was told I "may" receive some update via email.

Thanks for taking the time to put out all that info. Very important. I clearly don't know the details on the level that you do. I was just going by what the sheriff stated in the video, that they are doing things in which the DOJ/state law dictates and a lot of this isn't up to how the county wants to handle it. This includes not allowing extensions during this time and all that.

            - basically the state makes the CCW rules
            - the state allows the sheriffs to decide who gets a CCW and who does not get one

            - renewals and expirations laws are from the state

            - HOWEVER, cancelling classes/renewal dates etc MAY OR MAY NOT be a state issue or a sheriff issue... or it may be a combination of factors...

UPDATE ON RENEWALS: I just got a call from the San Bernardino CCW Department that they May 12, CCW Renewal Class in Rancho Cucamonga has been canceled.

They also informed me that the Third Street Office where you go to turn in your renewal paperwork was supposed to reopen on May 4 but will remained closed till Monday June 1.

The lady on the phone told me they will contact me in June about what the next steps are moving forward. I told her my permit expires in June and she told me just don’t carry once your permit expires. But I will not have to go through the whole application process again if they are unable to do the class in June.

I am going to try to call Gov Newsom tomorrow and see if he would sign an executive order to make the permits good for 5 years but I have a feeling he very busy these days planning for his 2024 campaign for President.

Best advice is go to the SBSD CCW site and read the info there.
Print the app and instructions and read them. Go from there.

Hi everyone. I am new to the forum and a new full-time resident of SB County.

I just applied for my CCW in the county with the following timeline:

2/20/20- interview and live scan completed

3/5/2020- work verification sent back to sheriff’s office.

5/8/2020- haven’t heard or received anything after 11 weeks...

Is there anyone else with a similar timeline? I’m hoping my wait is simply due to covid-19...

All CCW activity has been on hold due to office closures because of Covid 19 precautions.

Took me 6 months for my background after the interview, that was a few years ago before the Covid mess.
