It really is very simple to come up with a legit GC in SBC. You only need a couple of sentences elaborating on "I need a license to carry for personal protection".
No offense sir, but that is just crap. Unless you are taking somebody's very personal "good cause" and making it your own, you are doing nothing but satisfying a check box for the Sheriff's Dept. They want a definition of what personal protection means to you, period. If you can do that with a generic statement that you found on the internet all the better. Heck, at my last renewal class Deputy Hendrix was giving out examples of acceptable good cause.

There is no reason why anybody out there shouldn't school somebody on what is acceptable "good cause", I would call it paying it forward to ensure more good folks are armed in public. It is the background investigator's job to ensure they are of "good moral character", acceptable "good cause" should not be treated like a state's secret. Lying on the application is a crime, using a generic good cause that applies to you is not, please stop reinforcing that garbage.

      qualifying

I read thru most of this long thread and saw a lot of complaining about the need to qualify with the weapons you want to carry. I worked as a RSO at the academy for one of the ccw classes. During the shooting phase there were a couple of people who had boyfriends/husbands and experienced shooters tune their guns for them. The same guns that now would not eject cartridges, the same guns that now wouldn't fire. All you have to do is hit the target with most of the shots. I don't speak for that department but with all the liars (lawyers) circling around looking for cases the county needs to cya. If they pass you and your gun didn't fire then it is the county's fault and they put you in danger. If they didn't qualify you then the lawyer representing the person or family of someone shot will blame the county for issuing to an unqualified individual. I saw a lot of people who it seemed had never fired their handgun before that day, including one who had purchased 9mm for a 380 handgun. If you know how to operate your handgun and bring the correct ammo you should breeze right thru. Many people were excellent shots and handled their handguns perfectly. Make sure you bring 2 magazines for your autloaders

While it's probably a good idea to make sure you can shoot, the County CAN NOT be held liable for issuing you a permit.

That's the main reason ANY extra steps differing from state law pizz so many people off...

          What are the range exercises?

What are the range exercises and pass threshold for the range? Is it all free style? Strong hand? Weak hand? I just got my range date for apple valley gun club. I'm both excited and nervous!! Thank you all for all the advice and help you've given this far.

at the end of the day we went out to the range, and they had us get our stuff out of the car (locked and unloaded) get out the firearm and magazine (unloaded) and place them on the table. They do a quick safety check (make sure it is unloaded, make sure the slide locks, no visible damage) Once they have checked them they will have you load them. The shooting takes place in 3 rounds people who have 3 guns fire their first, second round is the second gun for those with 3 and the first gun for those with 2, third round is everyone. Actual shooting was 10 rounds with a reload (they requested 5 rounds, reload, 5 rounds) at 5 yards. it is a full size silhouette target, and they just want to see center mass (aim for the "8") after shooting, you clear your weapon, they double check that it is clear and you return it to the table. Go back out to the firing line, and they take you individually, look at your target and sign off you paper work.

Make sure you thank them, everyone involved is a volunteer, and is there because they support your rights.

              1) Has anyone used legally owned standard capacity magazines at the range day qualifying?
              2) Is the 1 year residency "requirement" still in place?

Alright, so I picked up my app today at the SBSO office.

I have a few questions, if anyone can help it would certainly be appreciated!

                1. Employment: I don't work right now, is that a problem?

                2. Utility Bills: I have owned this property with another individual for about 13 or 14 years, but none of the utilities are in my name. All are in the other parties name, but the monthly Mortgage bill, HOA bill and County Tax bill all have both of our names on them. Will this be sufficient?

                3. The DOJ instructions state to only complete sections 1-5 and sections 6,7 & 8 must be completed in their presence, but the SBSO cover page/instruction sheet states to fill out everything. I'ts contradictory - what's the proper procedure here?

Had the interview April 19, Range Day Sep 8, call that it was ready Sep 19, picking it up on the 20th. My timeline was slowed down a bit because I dont have any utilities in my name.

I have the same problem - no utilities in my name. I have other items with my name (mortgage, tax bill, hoa bill), but apparently that won't suffice.

I called and Joyce told me that it was necessary, so I've already switched our Edison bill into my name, but now I need to wait for a bill to arrive.

Did you have to do the same thing?

I rent a back house, and all utilities are included in rent (gas, water, cable, internet) no home phone only cell. My saving grace is that it is stated as such in my lease agreement.
