My interview was 9/9. Today, the sheriff came by to verify residency but only my daughter and dad were home. He asked them if I lived there and what was there relationship with me. Was that adequate to verify my residency?

Also, he said he visited the neighbors on either side of me and said for me to encourage them to call him. I am not close to either, one is relatively new to the neighborhood, what happens if they don't? He didn't leave any information (like a business card) but I was wondering if I should have neighbors I know better call in...or is that involving myself where I shouldn't?

the SD sents an employment letter to your employer. they have to respond to the letter. it straight up informs the employer that you are applying for ccw and in a way asking them to verify that you are clear for it. im not 100% sure what was in the letter, but HR was holding it when they called me in to notify me that they got it and that theyre going to respond positively to it.

Be careful how they answer #9 as a YES.

In most cases the SBSD doesn't issue CCW for work requirement purposes.

I had talked to my CEO & HR Dept. before applying for CCW, to give them a heads up about what I was doing. I wrote/updated the company firearm policy for the Employee Handbook & HR Dept (2A & CCW friendly policy), per the standards that the CEO and other Managers decided together.

I knew the CEO would be fine with the CCW, as he already allowed me and other select Managers to carry at work for self defense.

My CEO filled out this form for me when HR received it and thought he was doing me a favor by answering YES to #9.

He thought it would increase my chances of getting a CCW. I didn't know how he answered the form, before sending it out. I got a copy of it later from HR when I asked for one.

The IA Detective called the CEO on his cell phone to get further details on #9. CEO answered that CCW wasn't needed nor required for my job duties at the company, just that he was fine with me carrying at work for self defense reasons.

The Detective was fine with that answer and I got a call the next day stating that my CCW was approved.

I'm glad I don't live in SB County as it is no one's business at a job (unless you are required to carry as part of your job) that you are applying for a CCW!!!

I did not get one, I just read your post and rechecked the mail. Mine expires about 2 months after yours. I will let you know if I receive one. My only guess is they send out early, to book range dates. Maybe have limited number of days, and don't want the ccw to expire. That is my only guess. If you find out anything more, please share.

                Thank you

The best answer is to have you call and get it straight from the source. However, I just renewed and the process is relatively unchanged. You bring your two money orders (get the amounts from the office), bring your ID, CCW, utility bill and proof of residency (Property Tax Bill/Deed/Lease). Fill out the form, pay your money and make the appointment for the renewal class. I just recently had my class and even though my old CCW has not expired, they had my new one waiting for me at the end of the class.

Another change I noticed with the renewal class. The class used to be wasting an afternoon watching you tube videos and jawing with everybody about how lame this state is getting about guns. This past class, the Sheriff dropped in for a little over an hour, thanking all of us for participating in the CCW program, explaining a bit how things work, that they have added staff to cut down the turnaround time and to also have a Q&A time with everybody there. It was pretty cool! In all of my renewal classes, and there have been more than I care to remember, not one command staff deputy, let alone the Sheriff, have stopped in to see the class, even though their offices are literally 50 feet away from the meeting room. Once the Sheriff left, we went back to the usual you tube videos and jawing about how lame the state has gotten, but still

Oh, and Sheriff McMahon came right out and said for renewals "Personal Protection" is all that is necessary for your "good cause".

They send out the renewal notices at the beginning of the year for everybody who expires that year. It is the only notice they will mail out. Renewal only requires the 4 hour class at the Sheriff's Department. No range time necessary unless you are adding a gun to your card. You should start the renewal process about 6 weeks prior to expiration.

I finally got the call for my range date. Last week I bought a Glock 19 which I planned to add to my concealed carry list if I could add it. For my interview I listed two guns (M&P and a Kahr). I know I read somewhere that I can still bring a different gun that was on the list I originally went in with. I'm just making sure that I can bring the Glock in to be apart of the list. Can anyone confirm this?

I got one, so did the wife and another person I know. None of us renew until 2016.

No action needed, just tells us when to start the renewal process.

Did my classes and range today, got to meet 3 other calgunners to include Quiet. The class and qual was simple, was in the last string to shoot and was still done at 1:30 pm even with an hour lunch.
