Hey guys. I'm looking for an additional carry gun to round out my 3 guns listed on my LTC. I was going back and forth with the M&P Shield or the Springfield XDS. Looking at 9mm at 4 inch. I was wondering what your guys impressions are. I was originally leaning toward the Shield but after watching a handful of videos and reading a bunch of reviews I'm now leaning toward the XDS. I went to the LGS to put my hands on each. Both feel fine in my hand. After checking them out the LGS also told me about a "gear up and go" deal with the XDS that includes two additional mags, mag holster and double pistol range bag (claimed to be a $135.00 value).

I'm trying to not let the free stuff push me over the edge. Does anyone here have experience with both? Impressions?

M&P shield is a good pistol but I didn't like it because I'm a slim guy so traded for Ruger LCP so I don't have excuse to carry everyday.

XDS isn't on roster, and will command a premium price if purchased via PPT. You probably won't be eligible for that deal if buying via PPT, either.

At the same price, XDS might be marginally better. But I don't think it's worth the premium over the Shield. If you're okay with dropping some coin for an off-roster gun, also consider the Walther PPS and Glock 43.

Correct on all points, except, you definitely won't get the swag deal when buying a used as a PPT.

Double check on what SA XD version weapon you were caressing.

Oh man. Lgs didn't even mention it was off roster. The swag is nice and all bur I don't want that to sway me one way or the other. I don't mind paying more to get exactly what I want but some off roster prices are rediculous. I'll have to do some searching over the next few days to see if anyone has a half way decent price. I'm not anti shield but I definitely liked the feel of the xds in my hand over the shield, even though they are crazy close in size and weight.

I shot one in 9mm last week but not 40. Yes, please bring it I would love to try it out. Thank you for the offer.

I'm not totally sure what I'm bringing tomorrow. So far I'm thinking my Sig 516 AR, Glock 23, Raven MP25 (.25 acp) and maybe my Beretta 84 Cheetah if I can get some 380 rounds for it at the gun range. I need to call them for availability.

I need to zero my AR. I moved the optics to a new configuration recently and haven't had the chance to do it since. I figure my BUIS are still good to go should the need arise to use her.

Any of you Calgunners are welcome to take my tools for a spin while we are there.

Side Note: I picked up a used leather Galco IWB holster this afternoon on Craigslist for $10. It's always nice to have options.

I finally get to post in this thread. I got some great news today. My timeline as follows.

Sept. 4 Scheduled interview
Sept. 8 Interview with SSD
Oct. 22 Approval email resent
Oct. 23 Livescan

Funny thing, I was approved on Oct. 9, but I missed the email. I gave them a call and found that out. I'm going to try to knock out the livescan today if possible, if not tomorrow. I'll update ASAP.

Check the Yolo thread. The answer is currently no permits for Yolo residents. That may change after the Peruta case is decided.

I too received approval on the same day. Now go get your livescan done and take your class.

They have a great class there. Either Mike or Debbie will be your instructor. You can't go wrong with either one.

If you get Debbie than you get to play with her black lab Abbie on day two of the class.
