Just moved back to Elk Grove. Do I have to live here amount of time before I apply?

As long as you can show residency, you're set. Residency time prerequisites were part of the case that Sac gave up on.

I have my ccw from humboldt county and just moved to sac last week. I have my appointment with sheriffs dept on the 6th. I was curious where the best place for my training would be and who has room in their classes somewhat soon. Thanks

There is no standard set by the SO, you will find a different standard set by each instructor. I have not seen any that are that difficult to pass.

The class is a little pricey but Preston out at the Cordova gun range is a laid back instructor and qualifying is no big deal if you can hit the traget at 15 yards. if you have problems he will work with you and get you ready. I have had no problem going through the CCW process with my oldest daughter in Sacramento County but then we were not in hurry to have it yesterday either. So far everything has arrived within the time frames and been approved right on the stated schedule. Practice a little patience, understand that the Sheriff's office staff is undermanned but they will get it out to you on time if given the chance. Everybody I have dealt with has been polite and nice so far which says a lot with cutbacks and involuntary transfers to cover spots within the department.

My daughter and I turned in our final paperwork for our CCW's to the Sacramento County Sheriff at appoximately 9 o'clock yesterday morning and I went to jury duty this morning (7/6/11). When I got home there was a reciept for an attempt to deliver a signature required two letters to our house from the Sheriff's department. Now unless I miss my guess that was our CCW's and Amber and the cops downtown are moving permits as fast as humanly possible. If those were not our permits then those were the fastest last minute denials on record. I do not believe I have gone through an easier first time process since my induction into the Army in 1967(LOL).

I must have done something wrong. Everything went like clockwork and I don't know anyone down there (LOL). Getting a class within 30 days was not hard at Cordova gun range (not the cheapest place in town) but Preston is friendly and knows his stuff. Got my final appointment quickly (one week) and in less than 30 hours from that final appointment I got my CCW in the mail. The only delay was my going down and signing for it at the post office. The price for it was rather costly in the end (around $450 including my own amo) and as a retiree it would have helped if it cost less. But Amber kept it going and the few times I told her I might miss a timeframe she told me not to worry about and to let her know and she would note it for me in the file. She was very helpful and as far as the process goes I cannot complain about anything but the final price but at least it is not San Francisco pricing.(LOL). Or the other counties where the sheriffs are still on civilian lockdown and denying everyone they can.

if this is your first interview every thing should go quickly for you after this one. Seems like they have picked up speed on processing things and that just may because they have done a lot of them by now and have most of the kinks worked out. Just be honest, do your scheduling quickly such as fingerprints and range and then the final interview will be there before you know it. Good luck Bob6565.
