No a passport is not required. Just get passport type pictures done of yourself and bring them in. It think I did mine at Wallgreens.

I got a PM today from a CG Member asking if it's true they added 4 people to the CCW unit.

Not knowing for sure and being unable to verify from any other source than the one person on FB, I emailed the deputy that handled my renewal - Short answer is there have been no people added to Riverside to process apps.

Please understand that adding deputies to the ccw unit is a)not a decision that is at the whim of the Sheriff because b)it takes deputies off the streets. Being a Sheriff is a very political job. He needs to tread lightly. He can just tell the public he is taking deputies off the street so those same deputies can help put more guns on the streets. Face it, we live in California. California still does not see Ccw holders as an asset to the community. In California, any gun on the street that isn't on a cops belt=BAD.

Anyone that's gone for renewal. Did they ask about continuous training/practice throughout the 2 years of permit? Do they ask for proof of training/practice (other than the training and quals specifically required)

On the app there is a section that asks about training. I just put 4 or 5 of my range dates. They didn't ask for proof, I didn't provide any. Though I keep logs whenever I train.

I also put my CCW renewal class.

If tour good cause is not good would they decline you at the moment of interview. Or do they still send you to do your live scan and just hope everything is good?

Renewal - Got "The Call" to pick up on my expiration date or an offer to have mailed. I'll be picking up.

Timeline - emailed in Nov asking for a renewal appointment. Received a reply the next day with a January date. Attended class, qualified at Ben Clark. Pick up in the morning. Super smooth.

Fun fact - there are 2452 Active permits in RivCo with 481 processing as of 24 March 2017.

With a population of 2,189,641 people, CCW holders are only .001% of the population. A rare breed lol

A question on Riverside County CCW

The question came up about carrying concealed in a church setting as part of that church's security team. An LE friend said he thought there was a special allowance for this if the church had a letter on file granting permission while on their property.

So the question is - Has anyone heard of this exception before that would allow you to carry concealed on a church property without an actual CCW.
