Why wouldn't you BIL get one? Does he have a shady past? What would make him any different from the other 98% of people that get approved?


Also, don't count on the 9th. Now that SCOTUS has passed up Friedman and signaled that they aren't interested in any new 2A cases, the 9th is free to slap down Peruta and that'll be that.

When he was younger he had a lead foot and had a bench warrant issued for failure to appear. He spent the night in jail and fined. That was 15 years ago. He is now married with two sons and has a good job. Very model citizen. He's just wondering if his past jail time will disqualify him. Kind of sucks we have to worry about minor carp we did as young adults.
No other arrests or run ins with Police.

I know of somebody who had multiple FTAs and bench warrants for traffic violations. They were within the last 15 years, and IIRC, only resolved within the last 5, but never was jailed/held to appear, went on his own. He was still issued a permit.

Time might play a part in it, yes. But the timeline of 15 years or so was similar to the post mentioning it, so very comparable.

I want to be able to use this person as a reference point, but also respect their privacy, so I will not be very specific. His violations were in that 15 year time frame, and he did have FTA bench warrants. He finally went into court and cleared them up and paid the fines, in 2013 IIRC. During that entire time he had no troubles, never even pulled over. He was worried how it would appear when applying, but did so anyway. I am not sure how that shows on a record, if the original violation date is listed, or the conviction/court date. It was like a 10 year span, not insignificant.

He did list the situation on his application, and he told me nothing was mentioned at all to him about it during his interview. Even after LiveScan came back, nothing was said. In the end, he was approved without any issues. AFAIK, he has been carrying his J frame and 1911 happily ever since.

I know a guy that got popped on loaded/concealed w/o permit when he was first getting into guns and not only got a permit, but was expedited since it was connected to opening an FFL. I'm not a fan of a lot of this county's permit process, but they certainly are not blind to circumstances.

Yeah, I suggested he list everything he did in the past and be as up front and open about it. Sheriff's don't like lires or folks who hid things.

Thursday morning Press Enterprise article " Armed and Ready" there are statements from both Berdoo and Riverside Sheriffs. Berdoo has about 4000 ccw permits issued and Riverside has a dismal 1659 total permits. This number can't be because no one wants one. Maybe Mr Sniff isn't as permit friendly as he would like you to believe. For the record I don't believe Riverside is even in the top seven or eight counties in the state for issuing ccw. 1659 is a very disappointing number.

And before some of you flame up I am in the process and have been for almost a year.
