It seems strange to me that OCSD got so far ‘behind the curve’ with the migration being such a pro-CCW issuing authority. I’ve had my CCW with OCSD for just over 12 years, last renewed May of 2024, and they’ve always been very good at keeping the entire renewal process at less than 90 days. Hopefully they get caught up soon and return to their prior processing times that were quite prompt compared to other counties.

You were apparently fortunate to renew before the platform switch.

PSA, if you applied for a renewal before the platform switch, it seems you might want to go into the new portal and be sure that all your submissions made it across to the new CCW Pro platform.

My application was complete two months before the migration, and based on what I am seeing, it doesn't look complete now. It would seem they lost some of the stuff I uploaded to Permitium. Let the reader understand, we are dealing with a county-level bureacracy here.

Anyone else unable to upload PDF's to the new system? Seems odd that a platform that requires a lot of document uploads wouldn't accept them. Maybe it's just me.

YMMV, I have always found them to be courteous, but I've had one six week period where my renewal was delayed, and not over anything missing on my end. I think that was the last renewal, so two years ago.

More recently, I submitted a simple add a gun and didn't hear anything until I emails, asking if I needed a new training cert since I was pushing 90 days. They then approved the request.

I have read the above frustrations with the new system. Sorry but "new system" doesnt cut it. I have been calling 3 times a week since September. Finally someone got back to me via eMail. If its this backed up then the "new system" is a joke and should have never been done or migrated after doing enough testing. certainly shouldn't have been attempted to switch during an election year and certainly should have been beta tested on 10 percent of applicants until they were satisfied with its efficacy. I think there should be an investigation into this ordeal and It almost seems like a deliberate attempt at delaying. How many people wont renew because they forgot or just gave up? I for one own a small ATM servicing company and cant afford delays like this, so there is also the question for people with "critical rolls" Not trying to take away from others but it seems highly irresponsible. It only takes one person to die by the hands of an agency that failed to help them renew because they were not allowed the opportunity to defend themselves.. Again the obvious.. Never roll out a new system if you cant handle the volume.

Can anyone call their phone line successfully? I tried to call a few times, but it always went to the greeting and no voicemail. I emailed to them, but the result is not that great.

They do answer the phone but I'm sure they're inundated with calls due to the recent migration from Permitium to CCW Pro and resulting delays in renewals, amendments and intiials. I got through yesterday but it took multiple attempts. You almost have to keep dialing like a crack-head. Otherwise first thing in the morning just after 7am when they open Mon-Fri is your best bet. Good luck!

                  Applied for renewal 8/12/24
Received notice of migration and to verify data 10/29/24
                  Successful match 12/3/24
                  Emailed for update on 1/10/25
Status currently in Background in Progress

                  160 days and counting.

Frustrating for sure. My license expired 11/24. This would have been my second renewal. I can’t imagine how long it would take to add something later on.

In the same boat with you.

Regarding the order in which they are dealing with the backlog, they are apparently looking at when the renewal was filed in addition to when expiry passed. Someone who applied for a renewal after me recently got approved, but their expiry was before me. Yet I am still waiting.

Is it surprising that applications are not being handled strictly in the order received, or that the migration was apparently not all bright and shining?

I have had a complete application packet on file with OCSD for just under 180 days, which means that my training certificate is about to expire. Status shows "background check in progress." Would suck to have to pay twice.

Received my approval notice yesterday! Left a VM for the Payments department and they’re supposed to call me back.

Could not find time to get my amendment completed before so back on the horse I go when it’s time.

With the cost and time it takes for renewals now that would be very frustrating. I hold off on my training until about 2 months after I submit my renewal just in case the OCSD is taking awhile longer than usual.

I don’t understand why this process has to be so difficult. When I lived in other, less restrictive states I was able to get renewals done in 30 days. I submitted my renewal right after the system migration and did my training in January for a February expiration after hearing so much about delays and not wanting to risk a training certificate expiring. For my original permit I did the training and got the approval a week later. I don’t know why this renewal is taking so long. And to be clear I don’t fault OCSD. California never makes anything easy or efficient. Just another item on the long list of reasons I will never look back when I finally leave California.
