@FreeDumb Has anyone passed with similar GCS? That sounds like just normal self defense which everyone oh this thread said is not enough.

From the thread and my friends experience, there's always been a bit more of a justification.

My good reason of self defense =/= good reason to OCSD. Which is why I'm looking for real examples from people inside Orange County.

But thanks for the attitude with the advice from someone who got their permit in another county. This helped a million.

How do you know your GC statement is no good? Have you been denied? Did you put that you are afraid of stray cats in dark alleys or what?

I believe what he's saying is that his GC is self defense.

You just don't like the advice you're being given, which is all good advice. Skip the attitude or GTFO.

There was an entire thread on good cause statements, I even published mine, and there are others, and it has been used as an example in training around the county. Linky: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1057379

It does create some frustration when the members offer help but it's not good enough for you and you whine instead of going to work on what you have, type it out, submit it to some of the old-timers for peer review, ideas. There are even good examples of questions there you can apply to your own unique situation that would help you in forming into words your reason, or cause.

All the county is asking you to do is to articulate your need and want for a carry permit - they are not denying for 'not good enough'. If you can't do this you can't get a permit. That should be enough impetus to forge forward. Otherwise skip it.

EDIT: The other thread that has fallen off the current list and had some good discussion on the topic is here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1135726

I attended this training for both of my renewals, most recently last month with one of Jim's assistants [forget his name]

training room there is under construction so it was a little cramped but it works..

some of the video is dry but required info and good to know and think about..

instructor did inspect all of our guns to make sure they weren't modified.. sights and grips I think were the only things allowed..

well grips I know for sure because he passed the Hogue pao ferros on my sig and hesitated but passed Robar on my xds..

I believe mainly what he was checking for was functional modifications, he was checking triggers and barrel lengths too..

primary gun qual was 24 rds ea at 7 / 5 / 3 yards, off hand unsupported, pull the barricade over for simulated cover, reload, etc..

subsequent guns I think were only 10 or 20 rds ea at 7 and 5 yds normal stance.. oh, all on B-27 silhouette targets..

all in all, pleasant experience, instructor was cool, range is cool.. easy peasy!

even though website says no appointment needed, might still want to call Jim to be sure before making plans, humans happen ya know..

                          good luck!

Stu- BrownEye's advice above is something you should consider. I also live in LF, am relatively young, consider myself to be a "similarly boring person" with working a "regular similarly boring" job (not a relatively high paying nor high risk profession) and I was just issued my CCW. You asked a question about "has anybody passed with similar GCS" to @Free Dumb 's post : I have passed with a cause similar to it. A lot of the good people here are broad on purpose because it is up to you to make that cause unique because it is YOUR GCS and you need to put in the effort for it. Write something out based on the suggestions from BrownEye's shared link of causes that is relevant to your reasoning and then seek feedback from others. I got mine reviewed by my shooting instructors and local LF gun shop guys I go to, they and some others here on this forum are willing to help if you can write out something for the CGS.
