From what I understand the interview is basically for them to make sure you're a sound person who matches the applicant as well as personally confirm what you filled out. I guess I see both sides of the situation, they're putting a lot of faith in you to carry a firearm in public against all the CA rhetoric.

I was told by OCSD to start the livescan before the interview because it's taking up to 4 weeks. They still need to give you the livescan request form to take with you to the livescan location.

However, I didn't do my training/qualification until after the interview to make sure they were good with everything first. Which they were...pending my firearms clearance but at the end of the interview they said to go ahead and do the training asap so that as soon as the firearms portion clears I'll be good to go. Which is what I did.

I have a constitutional right to bear arms. Unless my rights are restricted, I don't see why the government need to vet me out. I don't ask the sheriff's permission to exercise any other right, why the 2A is treated like a bastard child?

Back to the point, there is a very small chance to screw up at the interview, but you never know what may trigger the interviewing officer. Everyone's background is different.

Once your livescan is cleared, the interview is scheduled withing a couple of months, and you don't anticipate any issues at the interview, I see a very little risk of taking the training class.

Does OCSD still do in person residency checks at your house? I always thought that was a waste of manpower.

I believe they have not done that for a few years now.

I hear you, I'm just saying OCSD is one of the very few Sheriff's depts that are actually 2A friendly and won't find lame excuses to deny you the ccw. They just have to cover their behinds.

As for the 2A being treated like a bastard child, that's the state and people who vote for this stuff. Just look at SB918 about to be signed which will render a CCW pretty much useless.

Anybody have thoughts on whether the Orange County Sheriff will have to suspend issuing after SB 918 is signed to deal with the required interviews of references and significant others? Are trainers already getting the required written tests ready?
The "slippery slope" is not a fallacy; it is a strategy.

The new law will be immediately challenged in the courts. The vast majority of the provisions violate the new SCOTUS opinion and guidelines. I totally expect the injunction to be granted

                    SB 918

                    Hi all,
SB 918 is still not law. It only just passed the appropriations and will go before the vote in the assembly soon. Then it goes to the Senate.
NOW is the time to say something to your reps and make your voice heard.

You aren't put on any list and it is your right as a citizen to say something. They count on you NOT saying anything to pass these awful bills.

You can find your representative through this link:
Use your residential address to find your California State Senate and Assembly representatives.

This is a statement I have been sending to my rep and others:
                    Hi,
I'm writing to say that I disapprove of State Bill 918 that is coming up for a vote.

SB 918 is a very far reaching and broad bill that concerns every private business. It concerns every citizen's right to have a CCW in our great state. Not only does it make even more locations illegal to carry, it forces every business owner to make a decision if they support our Second Amendment Right. It forces business owners to draw a line that shouldn't be drawn. This brings Private Business, into a political issue.

California already has the toughest application process for gaining this right as a Law Abiding Citizen. We are business owners, workers but most of all; Mothers and Fathers that want a right to protect themselves and their families from real threats in this world. A world that is becoming increasingly dangerous.

The recent Supreme Court decision in NYRPA v. Bruen has officially made the right to Carry a Concealed Weapon, for Self-Defense) every US Citizen's right. SB 918 is an obvious infringement on this right. This bill will be challenged from Day One by many California Gun Rights Groups. These groups(CRPA, GOC, CGRF/Michelle & Assoc., FPC, NRA) have been very successful in challenging laws that infringe on our rights, to the 9th Circuit Level. They have also been successful in getting decisions that prove they are an obvious violation(see; Miller v. Bonta, Duncan v. Bonta etc..).

I am writing to you to voice that this State Bill is too far reaching. This is an unreasonable restriction on an already restricted right.

Please Vote No on SB 918.

Please, look up your representative and make your voice heard. There is literally nothing to lose.

I'll be forwarding the link to my CCW instructor who has a mailing list of all his CCW students. Let's get some momentum going against SB918. Maybe someone can post it up higher so the non-OC folks can also join in.
