Looks like I'm moving down to OC from SCC in the near future.

Website lists DD214 for military. Are they just trying to verify you aren't a prohibited person? And does an honorable discharge tip things in your favor for getting approved?

I'd say not officially, but I can't imagine it doesn't influence the investigator for the good. An Honorable Discharge helps, if for mothing else, in the good morale character column.

I would say that being honorably discharge is a plus but showing good morale character and transparency will be key.

I just recently got approved, I almost want to say in record time, after all requested documents were submitted post interview. Got an approval the next hour. I have no military background, purchased all my firearms in the last year and had a hiccup with disclosing a misdemeanor from almost 20 years ago.

OCSD seems to really want to issue and want to help you get approved. They just have to cover themselves by have necessary documents on file.

I got that impression from SDSO also.

Did the department tell you this?

                Expiry: 3/21/2021

                submitted renewal packet: 1/12/2021
                emailed for status: 3/1/2021
                received: 3/2/2021 Hello,

You are welcome to complete the training, but it is paid out of pocket and not refundable so you can also wait until instructed to do so.

Email received 3/11/2021 - they said to go ahead and complete training and upload cert. I asked regarding pre-approval and she said that they now require it beforehand, but my app looks like it should be fine for approval.

On her email it now says allow 90-120 days for renewal

3/18/2021- submitted completed class and qualification cert.
3/19/2021 - email stating they have received all docs and waiting approval.

Moral of story, allow more time. Mine will lapse, but 2 years came by fast and with addendums, I was thinking I still had a year to renew.

btw, if it's hard to get into a class, OC firearms offers online renewal classes.
                UPDATE:

3/22/2021 received approval email at 3p that said that they would contact me to do payment over the phone. (still no in person anything).
Of course I didn't read it till next day after calling a few times with no answer.

3/24/2021 - received call from them a little bit ago for payment. They will mail out permit tomorrow and said to expect it in 3-4 days.
                kevin.

Finally, got the call to collect the fee, today. Will receive the permit in 3-4 business days.

                      Stoked!

Moved to OC from LA Oct. 1

                        Took CCW class Jan 24

Filled out application on line Jan 26 with all documentation including the following.

                        1. Proof of residence tax bill made out to our trust.
                        2. Copy of the first few pages of our trust.
                        3. Utility bills with wifes name only because she signed up for them.
                        4. Notarized letter from her stating we lived together because she was the only one on utility bills.
                        5. Good cause simple one reason work related.
                        6. Proof of my profession and position at work as owner of the company.
                        7. Completed livescan.
                        8. Certificate of completion of CCW course.

Received July interview date. Checked back frequently and got it bumped to March 18th.

Interviewed March 18th. Zoom interview effectively consisted of reviewing my answers in the electronic application with some additional information given from interviewer. Asked to submit copy of my Utah CCW and SIGNED certificate of completion for training course. Forgot to sign certificate so had to resubmit signed copy.

Submitted additional requested documentation within hours of completing interview.

Received email 2 days later on a Saturday morning that I had been approved.

Received phone call following Wednesday for payment.

Received card in the mail following Saturday.

Start to finish about 60 days. OCSD was fantastic. Very professional and timely. Kudos to Sheriff Barnes and his Deputy's!

Hello I'm fairly new here and was wondering what I could put for my CCW permit as a GC? I do photography on the side and handle a lot of cash transactions and my equipment is worth a fair amount, I also go to the shooting range often and I live in a not so good city. Also just turned 21 years old, Any tips would be appreciated! thank you.
