Unless there is a reversal in what we are hearing lately about the light green good cause denials, you may want to delay things as long as possible so that if SCOTUS reaches the right ruling in the Spring/Summer, you will be one of the first in line for a permit, as opposed to being denied and then reapplying with the tidal wave of people who will apply after such a ruling.

It's hardly a sure thing, of course. SCOTUS could screw us over and enshrine "may (no) issue" as permanently acceptable. But if we can't win with this court, we can't win. so here's hoping for the best. It's unlikely to get better than the 5-1-3 we have right now.

I wish LASD takes a page from OC - they have online system for applying, and that would make things easier for all concerned

Should SCOTUS rule in our favor, I imagine they will have to expedite things somehow, because otherwise people will start suing if they violate the 90 day time limit required by CA law. The only reason people don't raise that issue now is because they are scared if they bring that up, they'll just be instantly denied. I know that's why I didn't complain when my process dragged on for over 150 days. But if shall-issue were the national standard, that would change the dynamic.

I guess CA could change the law to remove the time limit. But that would also set up lawsuits for counties purposefully trying to slow down issuance to keep people from getting permits.

I don't think LASD quite planned for this many applications. I believe OC, Riverside and SD all do it online. Someone correct me if I'm wrong lol

Good news Boys! Seven weeks after submitting training docs, an unlisted number call came in so I calmly answered it pretending not to be excited. I cannot believe it but I am picking up tomorrow. From start to end it took six months. I didn't call or email them about anything and was patient with the process. Looks like I'll be seeing a few of you happy guys in Monterey Park.

              Congratulations! Very cool.

I definitely did the pretend not to be excited thing too.

Yeah, on the previous page of posts (#8503) I suggested people log on to FB or Instagram when AV has his weekly town hall and ask him about Recreational activities risks as acceptable GC. Also tell him your time line for processing.

It’s actually whichever is later. They have 30 days after receipt of your background check. The key word is receipt. Just because it shows cleared online doesn’t mean LASD has received it.
Cal DOJ is required by law to maintain audit records for any information requested by Law Enforcement Agencies, as well as non-Law Enforcement Agencies. The audit trail has to show who requested it, the agency, the reason for the request, and the date/time a response was sent, and who received the response. Shouldn't be to hard to get audit trail records from DOJ when it is your own records.
LASD is betting no one will take the time or pay to get the audit records to show they are not meeting the timelines. The old LASD Policy, 36 or 39 pages, which used to be on the web, clearly stated all Cal DOJ Responses are either by computer, or fax only, mail is not used due to the sensitive nature of the information. Looking at the denials from here, none of the applicants were asked to do a livescan, they did it without being requested, and it was much longer than 90 days.
Looking at timelines and posts, they are not meeting the timelines. I realize they are understaffed, but there needs to be a better system developed. Long term the system they are using will collapse under it's own paper weight.

Actually several people have mentioned that they were told results are both mailed and emailed. They absolutely send such information over regular mail. I recently did a transfer to a family member and it had all his sensitive information on it. It took the DOJ 3 months from the time I submitted the transfer online to getting a hard copy in the mail.

Lrdvadr got his denial less than 30 days after his interview and seeweed got his denial less than 30 days after his 2nd livescan. His first was never received so if the results really are only emailed it must be in their spam folder.

Are they going over the timeline? Probably. Is anyone going to challenge it? Probably not.
