I'm trying to set the record for longest time between application and take the training email.

Sadly I have you beat by a mile

1/5 mailed application
1/25 Got a call from LASD saying I needed a more recent denial from LAPD (mine was from 2015)
4/14 LASD confirmed LAPD denial no longer required
4/26 Interview Scheduled for 5/6
4/29 Livescan submitted
5/6 Interview, was told to proceed to livescan & asked about LAPD application status
5/23 Livescan completed, notified LASD
6/3 CCW unit replied "We will contact you when we receive the report from DOJ. It can take 4-6 weeks from the 5/23/21 date to receive."
6/21 LAPD denial received and acknowledged by LASD CCW unit

nothing since.

Wouldn't it have been nice if per their own regulations they would have elaborated on the GC shortcomings?

Read the Michel firm information carefully. The LASD should have written policy and definitions of GC to follow, so they can be objective and consistent.

I doubt that they have their GC requirements in writing. Especially if it changes with a change in lieutenants. I’ll bet acceptable GC is more like Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart’s definition of pornography back in 1964. To paraphrase him: “I cannot define GC, but I will know it when I see it.” If LASD had it in writing, those requirements could be published, we would know exactly what to expect, the requirements would be the main thrust of the interview and LASD could be specific in their denial letters.

The first class was productive and I am looking forward to sharing the knowledge to survive and overcome deadly threats.

How long should I wait?

So I submitted my application back in June with a light-green good cause. My check has been cashed but haven't heard anything else. I've read that reaching out would only cause my application to be put in the back of the line. Any suggestions?

We have the same timeline; buckle up and hold on to your horses, we are probably looking at Nov or Dec at least. Try to get on with your life, it is still a very long way to go brother.

This should not be a surprise considering they haven't met the timeline required by law either (The processing time for a California License to Carry permit is within 90 days of the date of application, or 30 days after the background check is received from the Department of Justice (whichever is sooner)). I now have 2 houses, 1 in LA County, and 1 in Clark County. I was up at the Clark County house last week, applied on Monday, LiveScan and Interview on Tuesday, took the CCW Course on Friday. I have advanced notification from USPS, guess what is in the mail and I should have tomorrow?
