You gotta be able to sweet talk the LT boys.

            "Hey there LT ____

            How was your weekend?
            Crazy weather we're having huh?
Did you catch that football game on Sunday? Why did Billcheck go for the punt, giving the GOAT a min and half and two time outs.
            How's your day been?

I wanted to call and ask about my GC."

            Boom.

              So?

For some reason you keep talking about taxes: you don’t get a CCW from the FTB or IRS. What flies for taxes obviously fails for an LASD CCW.

You gambled on the assumption it would fly and lost. If you had read my CCW Application Advice thread and obeyed it (business license; records of deposits; list, description and values of valuables or inherently dangerous items regularly transported), you may have been issued (or, by the sound of it, waited until you did have Light Red GC). (Your FFL is a hobby — Light Green — that you don’t even practice. A business without a business license ain’t much of a business….)

Fix your mistakes and be ready to reapply in a year. Don’t assume SCOTUS will rescue you.

Might as well apply now since they won't even see your application until 2023.

Based on all the information you've provide, I will reiterate the importance of finding your strongest GC and focus on documenting that. An FFL 03, unless you're just constantly buying and selling guns will not meet GC. You can take that to the bank. Regarding your best business based GC, the IT work. Here again, we have the problem of documentation. I don't know who your tax guy is, but unless you're dealing in petty amounts of income, not getting a business license or even an LLC or incorporation is usually not the best choice (but I'm not here to give business development lessons). I'll play a little devil's advocate here. Most business licenses are easy to get and not super expensive (so again, your tax guys recommendation truly puzzles me). If you aren't even willing to do that little bit to legitimize your business, what do you think your chances are of convincing the CCW Unit that you have a genuine business related good cause? They will be thinking the same thing.

Regardless, back to presenting your GC. Don't just throw everything on the wall and hope something sticks. It has nothing to do with whether or not LASD personnel can read a complex statement, but rather, one of making your case to the final arbiter of your application. I'm telling you right now, they're not going to look at all your various reasons and be swayed into thinking somehow, that makes your GC need more urgent or tangible. Find your best documentable GC and focus on backing it up with evidence especially if it falls into the green end of the spectrum. For the red range, you need to make sure your business has all the appearance of a legitimate business and not just something you made up solely to score a CCW permit. I'm not singling you out but just making these points to all applicants in LA County.

On a final note, if you look at everyone who's successfully applied for the permit, I will bet dollars to donuts that after the interview, they had one specific GC that the CCW Unit focused in on and were asked for all relevant supporting document. Those that were able to supply those documents were approved.

regarding phone calls: my deputy did not leave a message. He called me several times and I couldn't get to any of them. He called my alternate number and spoke to a live person, who relayed the message to me.

@CAGLS, keep your phone by you, make someone answer for you until you can get to your phone, whatever it takes.

Paladin is spot on. During my interview, I was asked for my business license, Secretary of State filing, and bank statements of deposits to support the reasons I am applying and proving I have a real business. I think that is fair to ask for documentation to verify your story. We need to have all of our ducks in a row before the interview.

But for many applicants, there is the rub. Is cause A with documentation B better or worse than cause C with documentation D? My judgement may differ from yours, and both may differ from the interviewing deputy, which may be different from the approving deputy. As far as I know LASO has no published standards or guidelines on this so we are all just guessing, so maybe it is smart to include more than one possibility. Logicly it should not matter how many insufficient ones you have, as long as you have one that puts you over the line. But of course we have no guidance on that from LASO either.
I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.

Although it has been a while, I applied for my business license online. Not hard, just takes a little bit of your time, about an hour. Once you have it, the certificate, you can call them and they will email a copy of your business license. My impression is anyone doing any sort of business in the city of Los Angeles needs one. And your tax person should definitely have required it if you are putting any business activity on your taxes.
