Was quick and easy in and out less than 5 minutes -
Deputy called me in to office , takes money order , verified quick info like name , DOB , firearms listed , you initial and sign a form with option to take a picture of the form, then takes your thumb print /photo and prints out Ccw license on spot. Asked her about future renewal she said the sheriffs dept is working on an online renewal portal soon so they should move faster for renewals. Hands you Ccw and sheriffs Ccw letter then the happy walk back up the hill to your vehicle.

I recommend arriving to lobby 30 minutes prior of appointment set hard time.
Parking sucks sometimes along the hill and the deputy is squared away on timing for appointments. Saw a couple guys missed appointments by few minutes and had to reschedule.

I waited about 12 weeks for phone call (Sunday morning call at 1030) to pick up scheduled a month out blocked number after receiving training docs received email. Hope this helps guys!

Just got the call, 9:35am on a SATURDAY. 10 weeks and 1 day from Training Docs Received.

Almost missed it, Unknown number - phone was on silent, got it at the last ring.

Scheduled for pick up Friday March 24th.

Congrats! That was basically my experience also. Except I was the only one picking up at the time and I only had to wait 3 days from call. When I had my interview I had to park up the road at the end of the parking lot on the left past the guard shack. I picked up the Friday before MLK day so the parking lot was pretty empty so I parked in the last row by the hill.

That's good I'm glad it's not only Sundays they're making the calls. I hope they speed it up since they've been warned by crpa to get it together or they'll be forced to hit them with a lawsuit.

Congrats. I'm going to watch church online once they receive my training documents. I would hate to have to wait an additional 3 weeks.

CCW in Beverly Hills

I've Been Denied at Lasd last year for lack of good cause.. Now I'm with the city of Beverly hills. So far Captain who is in charge of my application has been a great guy.. Friendly, respectful and then some.. Only 1 issue ... Psych Evaluation is part of the process. $150 extra on top of already paying $222 so far and not to mention last year's waste of time and paying $30 app fee with $130 live scan.. So far i'm in this for $382 and about a year and half of time. One more important factor. I have an active 3 year restraining order I filed for someone who was actively informing me that they will do bodily harm to me. It's filed with the Beverly Hills PD.

Recently someone had posted documents from the CRPA about all this..


Demanding Character References, Employer Notification, Social Media Postings, and Psychological Exams Violates Bruen and California Law

Bruen Standard

As explained above, discretion to “deny licenses based on a perceived lack of need or suitability” is impermissible. Bruen, 142 S. Ct. at 2123, italics added. Suitability determinations rely exclusively on subjective inquiries. That means that practices like asking for character references, inquiring about the application with the applicant’s employer, digging through applicants’ social media, and psychological exams are all unacceptably subjective, if not outright arbitrary requirements.

As the federal judge in the Antonyuk case explained as to social media searches,

“…a citizen's Fifth Amendment right would be surrendered if he or she were compelled to disclose self-incriminating statements on a social-media posting in order to exercise his or her Second Amendment right…[the government] has adduced no historical analogues requiring persons to disclose their published political pamphlets (which might be considered to be akin to a social-media posting), or their personal correspondence (which might be akin to a private message, or a message to a restricted group, on social media).”

Antonyuk, 2022 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 157874, at *85-86.

Applicants must already pass a DOJ background check for their permit process, on top of the background check they did when they bought their firearms. There is no constitutional need for extensive moral character inquiries beyond that.


Should I mention this or just put my head down and get this evaluation over with? I'd like to think I should pass but I hear of some who don't, including law enforcement.

Got the call yesterday to pick up for late March. Surprised they work on Sundays.

July 2021- mailed check.
April 2022 - interview
December 2022 - sent follow up email. They stated training email was sent in August 2022 but I never received it.
December 2022 - sent training certificate
February 2023 - phone call to pick up license.
March 2023 - pick up license.

I finally got the call yesterday as well. I was at work and saw the "Private Number" come through on my caller ID and I got excited. Pick up in March early in the morning. Going to be fun fighting the traffic to get downtown at peak rush hour. Wish I could call in some chips and take up the offer LAFD has been giving me for a helicopter ride along...LOL... That would be so funny to show up in a helicopter....

Emailed the ccw unit this morning and they told me that they sent me the proceed to training email back in early January; which of course never came.

Had I not emailed them again for a 3rd time I would’ve never known lol
