It is highly unlikely but you can still be denied. It isn't cheap to do the livescan. A lot of people just do their livescan and training without even being told to do so.
If you get the email to do the training, I think at that point you're approved.Applied on 04/5/2021

Since virtually everyone is told to get their livescan done, I think it is highly likely that almost all of the people who have been denied (I think more than 50% of all applicants get denied) have had their livescan done.
The training email is a different story, as noted by others. Once you get the training email, it means they have approved your "good cause."Comment

For my case, I was not told to do my livescan at the time of the interview. It took them a while to give me the okay to go forth with it. I've been on this forum for a while now and about 70% of the people just do their livescan right away without even being told to do so.Since virtually everyone is told to get their livescan done, I think it is highly likely that almost all of the people who have been denied (I think more than 50% of all applicants get denied) have had their livescan done.

Again, I think it is wrong for them to say "hey go do the livescan" because it's not cheap at all.Applied on 04/5/2021

Livescan is essentially three parts:
- CA DOJ Criminal (Statewide) Background check - passes relatively quickly, sometimes the same day.
- FBI Criminal (Federal) Background check - passes relatively quickly, sometimes the same day.
- FIREARMS Eligibility check- this typically takes the longest to pass of the three parts, sometimes weeks/months

Too bad there is no way to short-circuit the eligibility check even if you have the Certificate that confirms your eligibility alreadyLivescan is essentially three parts:

Yeah, if you go back and read other posts and timelines the firearms section would clear in a few days or a couple weeks MAX. Now it is taking over a month. They probably have a lot of on their plate or understaffed.
Has anyone done the livescan recently and had it cleared? If so how long, just to give an idea?Applied on 04/5/2021

It's just I would have thought that those who got the COE would have some kind of mark on their file, stating that there is already approval in force - that's how I've been getting my ammo without bothering with background checks - they just verify my COE numberYeah, if you go back and read other posts and timelines the firearms section would clear in a few days or a couple weeks MAX. I look at the Live Scan as part of their assessment of “good moral character” since it includes criminal background checks in addition to the firearms eligibility whatever else that means.Livescan is essentially three parts:
- CA DOJ Criminal (Statewide) Background check - passes relatively quickly, sometimes the same day.
- FBI Criminal (Federal) Background check - passes relatively quickly, sometimes the same day.
- FIREARMS Eligibility check- this typically takes the longest to pass of the three parts, sometimes weeks/months
If it is part of the GMC, then it is an integral part of the assessment that must be done along with Good Cause review to make a final determination about whether or not to refer to training.
That would make the LIve Scan an unavoidable expense for all candidates unless there is something so wrong with good cause or other aspects of the candidate at the time of interview, that the application is toast.4/19/21 applied, 8/31 Whittier interview.
