Sorry if this has been previously answered as I am just looking into applying.

For those that have mailed in their application, in several sections of the application it asks for a witness signature with a badge number. Did you just mail in your application without the witnessed signature? Or, must we visit a Sheriff office to obtain the signature?

And, in the LA area what is a better Sheriff office to deal with?

Witness signature and badge number gets filled out by the interviewing deputy at time of interview. Leave blank.

Applied June and nothing since. Anyone else with a June app and no progress?

I just checked with my 2 ex-neighbors, both of them applied mid-June, and are still awaiting a call. One of them emailed the CCW Unit, was told they would be contacted when their file was assigned to an investigator. Not sure why they are assigning July and looks like 1 August when they have June applications they haven't touched. It could be a canned message and both are sitting in a round file lost. So happy I moved and don't have to deal with the disorganized fashion they process applications. I told both they need to move to a friendlier state, they can't count on SCOTUS, and if the Sheriff isn't reelected they will probably go back to auto-denials. Don't like to be Debbie Downer, but looking from the outside in, it seems like an uphill battle. Hopefully the June App's they missed get processed, SCOTUS rules in 2A favor, and the Sheriff sees re-election.

It sounds like you have not read the specific instructions on the LASD.org website under the CCW tab. LASD gives specific instructions that are *different* from the instructions on the DOJ application itself. If you do not follow the LASD specific instructions, such as including a phone number to contact you and providing your good cause statement, they will just toss your application in the trash.

No, you don't need to visit a Sheriff office. That portion is filled in at the time of your interview. If you have any specific questions you can always call them or visit an office and they will help you out but I would advise not to. If they see that you cannot follow suimple directions they might just flat out deny you. It is already hard as it is to obtain the ccw.

Yeah..... I was not in any way, shape, or form trying to be mean or anything. I'm guessing that if you are applying to carry a loaded weapon the department is going to expect you to follow simple instructions. They will help you but logically the instructions are all listed on the website black & white. More CCW holders mean more safety in my book and I encourage everyone to obtain and apply if you meet the reqs. Everyone should do their homework because at this point the process is taking about a year and you kind of have one shot at taking it.

Hey Lares, I wasn't saying you will be deinied 100%, I am just implying that it is already hard as it is to obtain a CCW in this county. It is better to do your homework before applying than risk it. Trust me I want more CCW holders in LA. There is no room for errors if you want the CCW. I am trying to look out and help out..... For all that we know they'll just send a generic email stating to check the website for instructions. I use my words carefully and not make baseless comments lol.
