It is absolutely ridiculous that getting a CCW permit in LA County takes longer than the period the permit is valid for. Waiting more than two years to get permission to exercise a fundamental civil right is egregious and purposeful foot-dragging on the part of LASD. These delays have no relationship to the ‘thoroughness’ of their process. It is simply a strategic refusal by LASD to provide resources for the CCW process because they don’t respect that lawful citizens have a 2A right in the first place. They know the courts say they can’t simply deny CCW permits like previous to Bruen, so they intentionally make the process painful and at a snail’s pace. But its still a denial of a right, just via a different means than before. Is there a lawsuit yet against LASD for their purposefully delays?

Yes, CRPA has a suit against LASD for their long wait times.

I finally got the call for pick up next Thursday 12/12, I wanted to note the number came in from a 562- area code number not the typical 213-number.

Congratulations. A nice Christmas Present for you. After you've receive your permit. Please apply for your Arizona and Utah permit if/when you travel out of California. Get as much repricosity coverage as you can, if you haven't done so already.

To get your utah ccw, the instructor has to be Utah CCW certified. Call around and find an instructor who's Utah certified. There's quite a few of them.

Got Call for pickup yesterday (from a 562 number)
I did my application linearly (nothing out-of-order), so here's the final timeline:
8/29/2022----- Sent Application and money order via Priority Mail
8/30/2022----- App received by mailroom
11/10/2022 ---Money Order Processed
7/23/2024-----Phone Call / interview with Deputy Gamiz (11:30 am)
7/23/2024-----Sent requested document scans
7/23/2024-----Livescan
8/1/2024------Firearms Livescan came back (which is funny because I'm an instructor / have COE on file)
9/21/2024----Email to proceed to Training
9/29/2024----Took first 8 hrs training (Scott Druyun at Apex)
10/6/2024----Took 2nd 8 hrs and shot
10/6/2024----Scanned training docs and emailed to proper email address
10/15/2024---After not receiving confirmation, emailed Deputy Gamiz to ask if it had been received / entered. He replied that it appeared it had.
12/16/2024---Got call for pickup and made appointment for earliest (early January)
Just a little over 2 years and 4 months from application to pickup.

The question is; what really happened between 11/10/2022 and 7/23/2024? My guess; not a damn thing. It probably sat in a pile that was labeled: "Do not process before July 2024"
If other shall issue states are any indicator, there should eventually be between 150,000 ad 200,000 concealed carry permits in LA county. We still have less than 30,000. It's gonna take a long time to catch up at this rate.

The wheels are slow, but they're turning..get your training (16 hours) done ASAP.. and keep the wheels turning. Also, when you take your class make sure your ccw instructor is Utah CCW certified, So you can appy for your Utah permit as well as apply for arizona. If you haven't done so already.
