Good guy and gives you coffee and pencils and pens. No reloads to qualify. I ended up shooting only 15 rds per weapon. So I'm as happy as a pup with 2 tails. I should probably buy a new gun with the $ I saved.
Wow, that sounds like quite a bargain!

      Timeline concern

I recently moved to the San Diego area because of the military, and finally got around to submitting my application yesterday. By some stroke of luck, when selecting my appointment date on permitium I managed to get an appointment on May 2, 2022!

My concern is that I may not have enough time to get my 8 hour training course completed before my scheduled appointment date. Will I be afforded the time to be able to get my training done before my appointment?

You should have plenty of time. I think most trainers are scheduled a few weeks out. Even if you wait until you get approval, you should still have plenty of time to get your training done.

My experience exactly. I brought all my docs, the nice lady went over them and then we went for prints and pic. My understanding is the ladies that do the interview are the ones that do the initial approval, and the deputy just does the background check. As long as the background check is good and the ladies give their thumbs-up, you're in!

Unless I'm misunderstanding you...and this is your FIRST appointment for your initial CCW permit...You're NOT supposed to take your training before your first appointment.

              Per the instructions...

Please DO NOT take your training and qualification courses or get fingerprinted until instructed to do so. Please do not jump ahead in the process as your training and qualification courses will not be accepted.
There is a shelf life on the training course. And if memory serves they want it to be within 30 days of the point that they tell you to take it. You may also get denied. Which would mean you wasted approximately $200 on a course you didn't need.

Also this...you don't take the course until you've been approved. Once you're approved you will have 30 days to take the course and upload your certificate. If that 30 days isn't enough, make sure you discuss this with the clerk at your first appointment. I don't know if they make exceptions or not. But 30 days should be plenty of time to get into an open course unless you have personal scheduling issues due to your job or something. But again, talk that over with the clerks at your first appointment.

I've Been Approved - Now What?

If you are approved for a new CCW, you will receive an email from auto@permitium.com. You will need to pay the final fee (you can do this online if you want) and complete an 8-hour Firearm Safety course. Part of the course is classroom and part is qualifying with the firearms you want listed on your CCW. At the end of the class, you will receive a Firearms Safety & Proficiency Certificate with the firearms make, model, caliber and serial number. Upload that Certificate into Permitium (via the Order Tracker).

Last step, email us at ccw@sdsheriff.org to let us know you have completed the safety course and uploaded your certificate. As long as all fees are paid and there are no problems with your certificate, your CCW will be mailed to you. Please let us know immediately if your address has changed.

I'm not sure if it switched back to 30 days, but I was 90 when I got my approval a few months ago.

"You will now need to complete your 8 hour firearms training for the weapons you want listed on your license. A list of approved instructors can be found on the San Diego Sheriff's CCW page. You have 90 days from the date of this approval to complete your required 8 hour Safety Firearm Course. You must complete this prior to being issued your CCW license. Once you have completed the training, you can upload the training certificiate via the order tracker in Permitium."

Edit: yes, it still seems to be 90 days, here a link to an electronic brochure that is currently on sdso's website. On the lefthand side it says that you have 90 days to complete training. https://www.sdsheriff.gov/home/showp...75108892470000

San Diego sheriff's department PDF says I can add unlimited firearms to my license, however other websites are stating San Diego has a limit of 3 so which is it?

( Sorry for asking a question that has probably been asked a 100 times, My phone is having trouble searching the forum)

State law sets no limit. SD started out at 3. I think it was simply because the CADOJ application has 3 slots for serial number. They then went to 5 for a short time, I think because that was what they had space for to print on the permit. They went to unlimited shortly thereafter when they figured out how to print more on a permit.

I have 7, not that I ever intend to carry most of those but I view having them on my permit as a sort of legal protection in case of an inadvertent mishap in transportation such as you thought one was unloaded but it was not, an unscrupulous or uninformed LEO wants to claim it was loaded but it was not, or the lock on the case that you thought locked did not really lock. Having all your handguns on your permit protects you from the legal consequences of all of that.
