I signed up for the Discount Gun Mart class on 9/11. Has anyone taken the class there? I am curious if they require a holster for training? I am proficient in the use of my three handguns that were listed, but I will need some holster training before I attend the class, if they require demonstration of holster use.

I am getting nervous now since I actually qualified. I have been shooting guns for 30 years, but I feel like a rookie all over again. One more question, are there any other advanced classes in San Diego that allow holster training? I feel it is a duty to train as much as possible after getting the CCW.

        Thanks in advance,

          No holsters for qualifying there.

Interestingly they do have you shoot from the hip so to speak though it's not part of the official requirement so you can't fail that part. Basically your natural aim at a very close target.

DGM does not use holsters for qualification. The range officer who does the qualification segment, Patrick, is very friendly, relaxed, and low key. You will not be stressed, rushed, or harassed in any way. He wants you to succeed. When it is all done, I promise you will feel a sense of relief and that all your worries were unnecessary.

Excerpt from the SD Sheriff's page........

Both the new applicant and the renewal applicant course of training shall include live-fire shooting exercises on a firing range and shall include a demonstration by the applicant of safe handling of, and shooting proficiency with, each firearm that the applicant is applying to be licensed to carry. The course of fire qualification requirements are as follows:
From the 7 yard line 5 Rounds Two-hand grip
From the 5 yard line 5 Rounds Two-hand grip
From the 3 Yard line 3 Rounds One-hand (Strong only)
From the 3 Yard line 2 Rounds One-hand (Weak only)

In order to pass the qualification course of fire, applicants must have 11 of the 15 Rounds fired either hit on the line of or inside of the target. If applicant cannot demonstrate proficiency, then the license cannot be granted.

Is the target a standard B-27 human target? If so, that is fairly easy to hit at 7 yards. I would expect at least a 7 ring or something, Lol.

You got taken care of. I should have reached out to Miranda. My pick up date is August 20th. Another 3 weeks. I am bummed , but what can you do. That will mean by the time I have my permit in hand, this whole process would have taken 13 months. Thank god it is almost over.

                        Hello Everyone,
Today is my appointment day. 1 of 90 days.
SDSO staffs are so nice. I think they add more staffs (around 12) to process CCWs faster. I was there around 11:30am, the checkin list has 1.5 pages of names(20?).
a week before appointment day, BI email me they need more docs.

Were those all CCW? That unit and check in list is for a number of other purposes as well, not just CCW. If it was for CCW, that is a great sign.
