I think it is still the case. I know several that are getting close to 90 period. Including myself.

Gore should be busting through 3,000 by the end of the year. Next year and the following will be telling: that's when they have to start dealing with a great increase in renewals as well as initial CCWs.

        The Form

I'm considering applying in San Diego county. I read the application and have one hesitation. I had a misdemeanor DUI 33 years ago in another state and some minor trouble in the military around the same time and was Honorably Discharged. Any body have any idea how far back and deep they go ? Since then I have done nothing but grow old and boring. Thanks

From what I can tell, they are pretty thorough with the background investigation. My guess is your DUI might pop up, so it's probably better to be up front about it. The fact that it was 33 yrs ago and you haven't had any issues since, it's pretty easy to argue that it was a one time mistake.

Be honest with them and tell them it was a long time ago.

I know from a police commissioner that most agencies consider HIRING officers even if they had cocaine and marijuana use as long as it was more than 5 years ago...

I would assume that all prior information will show up in their search.

I would also assume that ANYTHING they ask to be disclosed, that you do not will be an instant denial, probably of the kind that would affect future applications as well. If in doubt, disclose.

It looks to me like both of those items are covered in section 7 item 6, as well as section 2, item 9 and possibly others.

Just received my approval letter via Email today! 59 days after my second interview. My suggestion (and required by Sheriff) with any criminal history is to disclose ALL information. I was convicted of a felony in 1998 for marijuana possession. In 2016, Under Prop 64 I went back to court of original conviction and petitioned court. I had felony re-designated a misdemeanor under prop 64. All second amendment rights were restored. In 2018 I then pulled my California state live scan criminal history before I applied for CCW. When applying for CCW I copied letter for letter and word for word all arrest record and court dispositions and entered data into my CCW application along with a strong good cause. I also pulled California Driving record prior to applying. That way there was no surprises with driving record or criminal history. Honesty is the key with any driving and criminal history.

I received my approval email yesterday, 46 days after my seconded interview. I was confident that I would be denied due to a misdemeanor DUI conviction in 2012 but, here we are. I have my CCW 8-hr firearms safety course scheduled for 5/11/19 with Defensive Tactics and Firearms, once complete I will call to schedule an appointment to complete the process.

I must say I'm very pleasantly impressed with the SO's progress in speeding up the process between second interview and approval.

I have a question for the most recent applicants. What is the current wait time between the initial call for an appointment and the first interview. When I called (just before the big surge) it was a few days, it climbed to something like 5 months a few months ago. What is the most current data?

I set appointment over the phone in Mid Sept 2018,

First appointment(no longer in person but over the phone) March 3rd 2019. Second Appointment in person March 5th 2019.

                          Approval email April 30th.

No Sherriff personnel left a business card to verify my address. Instead they use current utility bills.

Interesting. So still running about 5.5 months to first appointment. They wanted utility bills from me too but still required the superfluous step of sending somebody to my house. At least it is nice to see they are removing duplicative effort.

Congrats! Morgan is a fine instructor. I've taken a new courses with him. His range is pretty cool. You'll know what I mean when you get there if you haven't already been.
