I think they're up to 60 days now for the renewal process. But maybe call the clerks and see if they can do anything to help speed it along. Be polite...not that you wouldn't. You've already taken your class, right? Because if not, they may be waiting on you to upload your cert.

Yup, took my class the day before I applied for renewal. I was pretty careful and deliberate, so I don't think I overlooked any required documentation.
Thanks.

The lesson for the future is that you probably want to check the website 4-5 months out from your renewal to see where their lead-time is currently at...and then check it monthly as your window approaches. But make sure you submit your renewal as soon as they allow it.
This is my 4th renewal and they've always run to full extent of whatever lead-time they have posted. They're never early. And it's frustrating because renewals should be a slam dunk. There's no reason why they shouldn't be able to process a renewal in 30 days. But the last I heard is that they pretty much have only one day a week dedicated to the CCW process because they have other stuff to do. I don't know if that's still the case but it probably is. The 45 days back in Dec was a good sign. That was cut in half from what used to be 90 days. But now they're going back up at 60 days. The whole process is maddening...and dumb."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

Edit: I found the information, YES the renewal is now an 8 Hour Course. Le Sigh.Last edited by rplusplus; 04-03-2025, 8:51 AM.US Navy Retired 1987-2007Comment

Gents. For those of us in San Diego, is the renewal class 4 or 8 hours these days? From what I recall when I first obtained my permit, the class was 8 hours for new and 4 for renewal. Has that changed?

And I don't begrudge the classes for raising the prices. The don't have much choice. It's the damn state mandating this crap...and mandating it every two freaking years. I love paying money over and over and not learning a single new thing. It's a bunch of nonsense."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

Another data point.
My renewed permit, issued after the expiration date, is dated when issued (4/15/25), not the date it expired (3/28/25).
So they were gracious enough not to start the renewal period on the previous expiration date (3/28/25), which would have the same effect as dating an early renewal when issued.

received my permit in the mail yesterday, 5/14. new issue date and expiration coincides with previous expiration date, 5/31/2025. so this renewal came faster than the SO’s expected time of 8 weeks according to their website.sigpic

I moved to San Diego and started my CCW back in April of 2024. I completed my appointment and fingerprints on 4/21/25. Still when I look on the San Diego CCW page under status it shows "Appointment Complete." I have been told that it should only show this for a matter of days because it will move to a different status. I have also been told it will take 90 days or more to do the background check. I have nothing at all in my background to worry about as I have held a CCW for many years in Orange County. Is what I am experiencing normal or should my status have changed by now?Comment
