So sorry to hear you are 10+ months out. Given the influx of apps, it doesn't surprise me at all. With that being said, the process could be a lot faster than it is, cuz from apt to permit in hand is another 4 months
The staff there is great and doing a fantastic job, it's the process that is not great and that comes from on high.
Let's hope the new Sheriff is willing to surgically clean up the process
Not only check daily, but check 2x, 3x, 4x every day including weekends... I personally moved mine, my sons and 3 other friends up by many months so keep at it
FWIW to those already in the process and waiting, from my Cert submission to Permit being mailed, 15 days... the staff is on our side and they are really trying very hard here
Good luckComment

Thanks! I was able to move my appointment to Feb 6 2023 just now! I am excited. So sorry to hear you are 10+ months out. Given the influx of apps, it doesn't surprise me at all. With that being said, the process could be a lot faster than it is, cuz from apt to permit in hand is another 4 months

Going back 30 years I'd say, don't sweat the small stuff at this juncture.I think they are also trying to somewhat time it for renewals to be, somewhat, close to your renewal date. I had all my stuff in way early this last go round and they waited until two weeks before my expiration to approve me. The permit came about a week later but was dated for the week prior when they approved it. This means I essentially paid my hard earned money for two weeks worth of a CCW permit that I will never get to use.
And this may seem like a small thing but given the expense and that the permits are only good for two stinking years, I want the full amount of time that I pay for! I don't understand why they can't simply renew your permit in accordance with your current expiration date. I'm sure it's because of some dumb legal reason but it ain't right!

Does anyone know if you can add an additional handgun to the permitium application online? My appointment is Feb 6th and I picked up another handgun I want to add to my permit. When I submitted the application last week I only put down my Glock 17 to get the application started. Thanks!Comment

I believe as long as they haven't done the background check, you're able. After that, it is a firearm addition/modification.Does anyone know if you can add an additional handgun to the permitium application online? Yes this is correct, as long as you qual with it/all firearms and your instructor includes all of them on your cert...
In my case, I did 2 different quals 3w apart, ended up with 2 different certs, uploaded both the permitium
Just be sure to not send the email to the Sheriff's office that your cert(s) are uploaded until they are all uploaded and you will be GTG
FYI, for me, upload to permit in hand, 17 days

PSA
Paper or Plastic
The letter from the SD Sheriff should note at the top in bold, in the "Important" section, to carry the FD4501 as the CA approved permit
If you look closely, the paper permit notates FD4501 and the plastic permit does not, anywhere show FD4501
Per the SD Sheriff office when I asked the question via email, paper or plastic, here is their response
"The paper permit is the state approved CCW license and must be with you if you are carrying concealed. The plastic permit is optional. Thank you, Sheriff's Licensing"
I know many here already know this, with so many new permit holders coming online, it's good to get the word out, in my circle of friends, zero out of 5 picked up on this
Carry on and be safeComment

I searched all over the Sheriff's site but could not find the total number of permits issued. Does anyone know where that data is hosted?Comment

It's on the front page of the Sheriff's CCW page...down by the picture of the red phone. It's pretty small so you could easily miss it.
Total Active CCW Licenses: 9,414"Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."
