I would guess that as long as the $$ keep flowing, there is no need to do anything. I’m really surprised that it has been around this long.
Meanwhile, I’ve been staying up to date on lots of firearm related content through a private forum board of more like-minded gun owners.

The Racoon site? Seems it is trying with a "current events" and got rid of "casual corner". Is the racoon now trying to be like CGN? I like where current events says "Keep things factual not based upon opinion" Huh? How in the hell does one do that?? Most "facts" are opinions unless you are talking physical laws and even those can be just opinion and can be discarded or replaced by a newer theory.

Been there…don’t like it. Calguns is much better. At least when it works.. like now.
I really wish Kes would at least communicate what the problem is and what we can do to help him fix it.

The problem is 4,000 spiders crawling the posts on this forum, slowing the webserver the **** down for everyone. It's obvious given it says 151 members online and 4027 guests online. What's not obvious is why whoever controls this site doesn't notice this; my guess is inexperience as a server admin. It ain't an easy job, that's for sure, but it's going to take more than a RAM upgrade to handle all those persistent connections.

The worst thing Calguns ever did was try and update the forums/getting rid of karma ratings. And dropping it for vbulletin update of all things is hardly an upgrade - this software is 25 years old, after all. That means 25 years for web-scrapers to learn how to comb through the site without having connection booted.

The second worse thing is this - half the time I try and visit I simply cannot use the site due to the congestion.

It's killed the brand. It's unfortunate, but nobody's willing to hire outside help.

And that means the slow decay for this once-proud pony.
