my mistake, so the Benelli (SBS) would be a no go since it's not a C&R.... Now I'm looking at an Ithaca Stakeout

Stupid question - forgive me I just stumbled upon this thread.
So... If set up a trust or am already have a corporation, I could get a suppressor installed on my home defense pistol or hunting rifle?

That sound too good to be true.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Unfortunately suppressors aren't legal for civilian sales in California. I would definitely be in though for a grassroots movement to legalize them however.

Sorry if this has been discussed, I've searched but couldnt find anything about it.

Would a Taurus Judge be considered a AOW? If that is so, could someone purchase one using the same process outlined above?

No, a stock Taurus Judge is not an AOW. The feds just consider it a handgun. If it was an AOW, you couldn't buy one anywhere in the country without having to deal with the process of getting a Tax Stamp.

CA considers it an SBS per CA's definition of an SBS. A firearm that has a barrel less than 18" and can fire a fixed shotgun shell.

Now, if you really wanted a Judge, you could have a licensed NFA manufacturer convert that Judge into an AOW by swapping out the rifled barrel with one that had a smooth bore. That would make it an AOW per federal law since it woulld now be a smooth bore pistol. Or, you could have that manufacturer install a Vertical Forward Grip, and it would be an AOW per ATF.

Once that was done, it would be an AOW, and the federal AOW exemption exempts you from the CA SBS law. Oh, and it would need to be roster-exempt at the same time. So, it would need to be converted to single-action (not sure if possible), and meet the dimensional requirements.

All that costs money, but if you want one bad enough, it might be doable.

I believe no matter what you do the judge is still illegal. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't any shotgun with a revolving cylinder an AW per California law?

The Judge does not fit the CA definition of a shotgun (defined as a shoulder-fired firearm), so it should not fall under the definition of a "shotgun with a revolving cylinder".

How in one sentence can you say that it is a "short barreled shotgun" and in the next say that it is not a shotgun?? California law makes no sense.

CA's definition of a short barreled shotgun does not require the firearm to first be a shotgun. The fed's definition of an SBS DOES require the fireamr to first have been a shotgun.

It would be like having a defintion of "car" that stated that it must carry 2 or more people in order to be considered a car, but then having a definition of "race car" that allowed for single-seater vehicles to be considered a "race car". they both use the term "car" in the definition, but the definition of "race car" did not require the vehicle be considered a "car" first.
