Went online Aug 01 to renew my COE which expires on Sept 12. Attached a pic of CDL front and a Copy of my FFL03. I didn't bother to enter the number in the comments. Got my approval this morning.

    Renewal Application completed AUG 01
Notification of Approval on AUG 03

    Easy peasy.

Hello can you explain this in more detail? I'm not quite able to grasp this.

With an FFL03+COE you can order ammo on the internet and have it shipped directly to you. You don't need to send it to a local FFL and have them run the eligibility check (most shops charge $20 or more for this). There's a list of online vendors that will ship to you directly in CA (if you have an FFL03+COE): https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...40&postcount=1

It means you can buy/acquire ammo directly from private CA sellers without having to visit a FFL to do an ammo transfer

New to the scene and have a question with 03FFL/COE. I saw several threads that many shops don’t ship ammos to addresses within LA county, is that still the case now? Just wanted to confirm before I apply. Thanks all

Some CA counties/cities have ordinances that prohibits/restricts who can legally receive ammunition shipments.
^This is why ammo vendors will not ship ammo to certain CA counties/cities.

You need to check your county and city ordinances to see if you live in an area that has those types of restrictions.

In reading through these threads, can one apply for an FFL03 + COE for the exclusive purpose of buying ammo online? Obviously you'd use the "collect antiques" in the reason during the application, but what would happen in the event of an ATF audit if your log only showed online ammo sales? While the process is somewhat involved, it also doesn't seem overly difficult either. Given the huge discounts available from online purchases, why WOULDN'T you get your FFL03?

There is no legal requirement for a C&R 03-FFL to log any type of ammunition transactions.

There is no legal requirement for a person with a valid COE, for being a collector, to log any type of ammunition transactions.

I read this entire thread, and I have one further question:

Cost (if I read correctly) includes LiveScan fee, plus $30 to the ATF.

What about renewal? Is there an ongoing cost to maintain the COE/FFL03?

                      Edit:

Maybe I'm off on my estimations...
                      A Reddit user posted:
                      Costs of getting a COE + FFL03 being; $30 FFL03, $71 initial COE, $30 LiveScan and $20 for the logbook = $151 upfront.
On top of that, it's another thing to remember to renew, which is $22/yr renewal on the COE and (basically) $10/yr (or $30/3yrs) for the FFL03.

                      Is that accurate?

                      Thanks!

I submitted my application in October. The check was cashed on the 31st. I already have the COE. I haven’t heard a peep from the ATF on the status of the application yet.

I sent an email inquiry to the ATF today. I have no idea what information they would need to find me in their system. I only gave my full name.

Okay fantastic. Super interesting on all your processes. Maybe next payday in January I will start the process. I'll be curious to hear the updates as they come.
