Well, sort of. I wouldn't say definitive. Field reps are just as opinion based as the folk on the phones and DES assistance.



The bolded part is what I'm hoping for. This is a good opportunity for the CA LE officials and the LE community as a whole to show us "normal" folk that they're on our side as upholders of the constitution.

Although Field Reps and DES are giving opinions, at least you have a name/date/time of someone who is directly involved with the Bureau of Firearms that enforces firearms licensing/regulation to somewhat fall back on if there is a question later on why you took a particular action (i.e. sold an off roster gun to a fire marshal after being told it was fine by your DOJ Field Rep and then having it come up in an audit).

As for the roster, it truly has become what is was NOT meant to be. Everyone can agree there is nothing more "unsafe" about a Gen4 Glock versus a Gen3 Glock.

Getting rid of the roster altogether would seem like the right thing to do, but highly unlikely in this political climate. However instances like this give some good additional reasons for it to be scrapped...

Funny, my ID says "sworn peace officer" on it. I've been doing this for a lot of years and was unaware that other counties in California have POs that aren't sworn.

Curious...if it is the case LEO can purchase a NON Roster firearms... how would you enter it in the DROS system?? under what category??... reason I ask is it states a Dept. letter is required under Non Roster Guns... So IS it the case you can ONLY deliver to LEO with a letter from Dept.??

Under transaction type use EXEMPT HANDGUN

Under waiting period exemption type use NONE

This is for an off-roster handgun purchase with a 10 day waiting period (i.e. not on letterhead) to a covered peace officer (as posted in the recent CA DOJ notice) or federal LEO. No letter is required if they are going through the 10 day wait.

As said above.

There is a LEO entry, but that is only for when the officer has a letter to exempt them from the waiting period. That additional selection can confused FFLs.

They are cops buying off roster pistols and waiting the 10 days


Also I spoke to a DOJ field rep about what a sworn member is in relation to the DA's office since I have a family member that is a domestic violence trial assistant at the DAs office.

She said they need to show some identification that the are sworn in and it will usually show on their badge or ID card.

She said trial assistants are not sworn members.

Pretty much the customer will know if they have been sworn in or not.

Iv also had a Calfire sworn peace officer buy a few off roster handguns from me.. It was before the letter.. I guess they are a no go now

I never noticed... I always figured that if I am to deliver within 10 days I need a letter.. That's why it still says pending for 10 days anyways before it says approved

Right...it says "pending" but if you look just below that it also says deliver gun...and once you hit that it will say approved... regardless of the 10 day or not...

the Exempt way will say "pending" but won't give you the option to deliver the gun until 10 days has elapsed...
