    Many Jews do believe in HaOlam HaBa, "the world to come".

    As for Jesus, the Jewish sages knew about him but unfortunately the Jews of Jesus's time did not receive him since they only wanted the King Messiah (Son of David), Not the suffering Messiah (Son of Joseph) who must come first and die. Eventually a shadow of this knowledge was written down in the Talmud after the destruction of Jerusalem. Look up Sukkah 52a, Messiah the son of Joseph who is killed for the slaying of the Evil Inclination. "And they shall look upon me because they have thrust him through, and they shall mourn for him as one mourneth for his only son"

    It's not coincidental that Jesus's adoptive father was named Joseph, but more importantly, his name points us to Joseph of the old testament. Luke 24:44 tells us that the Law (Torah) prophesied about Jesus. Here is an abridged list of thematic parallels.

    Joseph:
    - was hated and rejected by his brothers,
    - was sold for silver into the hands of the Gentiles,
    - was falsely accused by an unfaithful wife (the wife of Potifer),
    - was condemned to prison
    - was raised to the right hand of pharaoh and was the ruler of Egypt.
    - was given a Gentile wife,
    - was not recognized by his brothers when they come to him since he now looks like an Egyptian ruler.

    Likewise Jesus:
    - was hated and rejected by his Jewish brothers,
    - was sold for silver into the hands of the Gentiles,
    - was falsely accused by an unfaithful wife (Judah was called an unfaithful wife by God),
    - was condemned to death,
    - was raised to the right hand of God,
    - The Gentile Christians are called the bride of Christ,
    - was & is not recognized by the Jews since he has been made into Jesus the Catholic/Protestant god that looks nothing like the Jewish Messiah...

      If we are splitting hairs, yes. But I think most of the popular English translations are good enough to fulfill Micah 6:8 "He hath shewed thee, O man..."

      Sorry if my statement about Pastors/Priests was off base, looking back it did sound condescending. But I have listened to sermons that echoed the idea that God does bad things to people and it's OK because he's God...
      I don't see this in the scriptures. God is not cruel and does not inflict harm except in cases of justice.

      I'm in agreement with what you wrote earlier "god of this world..." so I must not have expressed myself well...

      I don't believe that God Causes diseases, tornadoes, hurricanes etc, but rather these are the result of sin (Adam & Eve...). God created the world perfect (Eden) but when men decide to believe the Word of satan instead of the Word of God, death entered the world and satan was allowed temporary dominion.

      Indeed

        Truly. And in the magisterium of the church there has been much said about this subject for the last thousand or more years. It's true that in the Gospel Jesus says none come to the father but through him. I think the best answer is we do not know. Per the Bible, and per the traditions of Christ's church on earth, we do not know.

        I struggled with this for a long time, among many other things. I lost my faith, and came back and am now converting to Catholicism. We can't and ought not speak for God. It is true that Jesus Christ, who's grace is freely given, tells us the way to him and to salvation, and we should teach that first. But none can say what exceptions, in the end, God might make.

        We see a little bit of this also in the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard, in the 20th chapter of the Gospel of Matthew:

        11 ...they murmured against the master of the house, 12 Saying: These last have worked but one hour, and thou hast made them equal to us, that have borne the burden of the day and the heats.
        13 But he answering said to one of them: Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst thou not agree with me for a penny?
        14 Take what is thine, and go thy way: I will also give to this last even as to thee.
        15 Or, is it not lawful for me to do what I will? is thy eye evil, because I am good?
        16 So shall the last be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.

        Granted this parable is not talking about people of different faiths, but underlying the story is our difficulty in accepting that God's ways are not our ways. What we consider fair may be petty in the eyes of God. It should be a mystery unto us.

          The Rabbi decomposes just like everyone else.

            Agreed. I am firmly convinced that there will be people in Heaven who are going to be a shock to those who know them. "How did they get here?"

              original sin gave the kid cancer, not God. God didn't tell Adam and Eve to be disobedient so they can have all of the stuff that is associated with being fallen. Adam and Eve chose that themselves. Romans 6:23 for the wages of sin is death

                Who was the prophet Isaiah writing about in this text?
                Who has believed our message?
                And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
                2
                For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,
                And like a root out of parched ground;
                He has no stately form or majesty
                That we should look upon Him,
                Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.
                3
                He was despised and forsaken of men,
                A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
                And like one from whom men hide their face
                He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

                4
                Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
                And our sorrows He carried;
                Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
                Smitten of God, and afflicted.
                5
                But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
                He was crushed for our iniquities;
                The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
                And by His scourging we are healed.
                6
                All of us like sheep have gone astray,
                Each of us has turned to his own way;
                But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all
                To fall on Him.

                7
                He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
                Yet He did not open His mouth;
                Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
                And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,
                So He did not open His mouth.
                8
                By oppression and judgment He was taken away;
                And as for His generation, who considered
                That He was cut off out of the land of the living
                For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?
                9
                His grave was assigned with wicked men,
                Yet He was with a rich man in His death,
                Because He had done no violence,
                Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.

                10
                But the Lord was pleased
                To crush Him, putting Him to grief;
                If He would render Himself as a guilt offering,
                He will see His offspring,
                He will prolong His days,
                And the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand.
                11
                As a result of the anguish of His soul,
                He will see it and be satisfied;
                By His knowledge the Righteous One,
                My Servant, will justify the many,
                As He will bear their iniquities.
                12
                Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great,
                And He will divide the booty with the strong;
                Because He poured out Himself to death,
                And was numbered with the transgressors;
                Yet He Himself bore the sin of many,
                And interceded for the transgressors.

                  However, since God is all knowing, when He created Adam & Eve, He knew perfectly well what the outcome would be. As to the Devil / Satan taking dominion over the Earth, the all powerful God allows this as well and seemingly authorizes it all.
                  So it is the will of God. All of it. Don't see how God gets away from the responsibility of the doing of all this.

                      So the post by colossians 323 is how we get to feel humble and responsible for all the ill that befalls us, and God gets the credit for any/all the good. Nice gig being that one true God.

                        I wouldn't know. I do know that He hates sin. He cannot tolerate it. Because man sinned against Him he created decay in the world. We all die. Pick your death. No one is treated unfairly. All get justice. Some get mercy.

                          Actually we should feel humble because of the Grace and Mercy given out freely. God wants a personal relationship with us. Consequences of sin is a great way to humble us and kindle that relationship.

                          Do you know who God is?
                          Are you interested to know who He is, or just interested in making up assumptions based off of your own beliefs?

                                If God hates sin so much, why did he allow it to come into being? If (standard Judeo Christian definition of God) God is all knowing/powerful how could He not know the course of things. Is the creation of space time His way of treating this infection of sin?
                                Still, why did He not, foreknow all this allow it to be? Love of who is involved here, Gods love of his own work or his love for mankind. Kind of the same thing. He is perhaps needy and wants to be recognized and appreciated? And yet He can't abide the rebellion He knew would result, or did result. This would seem to indicate a flaw in the commonly defined nature of God. Guess we have to take it on His terms, but why give us analytical minds only to lead us astray/not intend us to use them.
                                Wouldn't God be the ultimate 'jury of our peers'? Why is the Judgement a one way street, I mean as we are all spiritually at least, part of and connected to God anyway. This is the problem with 'Religion', they already have all the answers.
