I don't think so. Because you say so do doesn't mean squat to me. You slander the reformation with made up rhetoric and I'm supposed to accept that as fact? Show me some evidence. Show me that Jean Calvin proclaimed it. Show me Edwards, or Spurgeon, or Knox. Anyone. I can sit on the computer and make up lies. Oh, and tell me how slandering others with no facts is Christian. You and you alone need to answer for not being Christian. I find no grace in you whatsoever. You slander the brethren for your own pride. I call all who observe the Apostle's and Nicene Creeds my brother regardless of denomination.Psalm 103

When religion is discussed, it's common for people to say "I'm a Presbyterian" or "I'm a Baptist" or "I'm a Catholic".
It's understood that they all mean that they're Christian, but just specifying their doctrinal leanings and church tradition.Comment

Yes, he doesn't get the point.
Yes, I understand but Calvinism is a school of theological thought.
Personally I don't hang tight to any form of theology outside what is clearly written in the Bible, that doesn't mean I don't understand it, it just means that I don't put my heart into it.
Theology is man's understanding of Scripture and could easily change over time.
For example when Israel became a nation in the late 40s that blew a hole in a lot of theology at the time.
Now when someone answers "I'm a Methodist" or "I'm a Baptist" they are answering a question after their Christianity has already been established.
Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran..etc are not religions they are denominations.
When asked what religion a person is the word Christian would be the first word out of their mouth, if they are indeed a Christian.
If someone were to ask me what religion I was the first words out of my mount would be "a Christian".
I am not going to say that I'm a Systematic or a Historic, Preterist, Dogmatic, pre-trib, post-trib Calvinist...etc.
Those are schools of theological thought and study not the faith.
The faith is in Christ and in Christ alone. That's where we put our faith, hope, trust and confidence.
God never changes but man's understanding of theology does.Last edited by Just Dave; 12-04-2015, 6:25 PM.Comment

I don't think anybody in the right mind when asked what their religion is would say "I'm a Calvinist". I would never say this... but if further questions were ask it would probably come out.Comment

I was going to a Bible study with my wife and it was chock full of Calvinism...Had some interesting discussions...
My takeaway? I identify with Christ, not Calvin. John C did nothing but disrupt a wonderful thing and cause dissension.
I am a Christian. Period. No need to call it a Baptist or Lutheran, blah blah...None of these theologians died for me..
I wish and pray that people would and could get on board with just being a Christian.."When the system breaks down, you get to vote from the rooftops. Its one of the last best traditions of western enlightenment"
"This was an IQ test/science experiment of Josef Mengele proportions, and the public willingly lapped it up. And many failed". (me, on Wuhan flu, 2022)
Question EVERYTHING.
"Sure buddy. Whatever you say. Whatever you gotta tell yourself to sleep at night"Comment

Why should anyone watch it? You may as well tell us that it will change your life while in actuality we all know that Calvinism is just another cult that preaches false doctrines. If you don't believe calvinism is a cult, just look at the name, Calvinism=followers of calvin not Christ.Comment

OP, let me ask you this..... did you choose to start this thread? If your answer is "yes" then you have killed your own position.Comment

Exactly. Romans 8:29-30 are some of the most comforting reassurances God has given His people and there are those who use those passages to cause upheaval.I was going to a Bible study with my wife and it was chock full of Calvinism...Had some interesting discussions...

Sadly there are some who take it to that extreme. Why should anyone watch it? Are you tracking now, Huskydog? The Faith Forum had been in a lull for 2-3 months, but you brought it back to life. For your next trick, you should start a thread asking if Catholics are Christians.

Contrary to much what has been said of opponents of the doctrines of Grace , I believe I have a will to choose between options. We believe in a Will, but concerning spiritually good our will is in bondage.
Here's a question: Do you believe God has perfect infallible foreknowledge of all future events? If you do and God knew you were going to reply to this thread could you have decided not to and done otherwise.
If someone wants to ask me a question I am more than happy to provide an answer to the best of my ability. I'm respectful and respect works both ways.Comment
