    Calvinism

I have been looking at some of these posts and noticed some negative comments to Calvinism. Some are putting forth bible verses that they think quenches Calvinism. I invite those interested to view a 3 part video that lays out what we believe and why we believe it.... If you disagree that's fine, but see why we believe what we do before you disagree......

The only problem I have with Calvinism is..

#1 Calvinist are all about Calvinism, they preach a theological idea instead of preaching Christ.

#2 All of the Calvinist that I know don't do outreaches to the lost (least none that I've seen) but instead go to other churches (and Christian groups) and cause division.

#3 Calvinism is where all Calvinist that I've met get their identity, instead of identifying themselves in Christ they identify themselves with a theological school of thought.

#4 All of the vocal Calvinist that I've met will pigeon hole the church into two different theological groups, neither of which Christians affiliate themselves with.

#5 Having chased a few out of church, I have seen firsthand the ugly side of Calvinism.

This is just the fruit of what I've seen and experienced. I don't even have to discuss their theology.

There are some things about Calvinism I can see and somewhat agree but I think the main failing of Calvinism and Arminalism is that it tries to define to confine God to a little box or redefine the Gospel. I think the Lord is so much bigger than five little points and removes any though of the Lord.

That's not even the half of it.

          Quick story...

Years ago there was this fella who fellowshipped at out church, he had been there for years and one day I noticed that he wasn't around anymore.
So I just figured he moved away like so many others.
A few years go by and a person in my church invites a bunch of us to a home Bible study and surprise this fella who hasn't been around for a few years is going to be teaching.
I thought cool, I haven't seen so and so for quite sometime and we could catch up.
So about 15 of us gather at this person's house and I start chatting with this fella. We weren't even 5 minutes into conversation when he mentions to me that he's a Calvinist, interesting I thought.
So the Bible study starts and the first thing that comes out of this guy's mouth word for word and I quote..

"I bet you guys have never had your Pastor teach you this before"

Over half of us left, it was bad enough that he kept talking about his Calvinism now he's trying to discredit the church's Pastor while introducing a "new doctrine" and it didn't end there with this fella.

My exposure to it is that it's very "You gotta go to church!" oriented, and the Calvinists I know go to church twice on Sundays. Other than they they seem like normal people, no one's ever tried to cram something down my throat. OTOH they'll definitely mention that they are Calvinist.

But hey, I was brought up Lutheran and learned from a child to say "I'm Lutheran" when people asked, LOL I'm telling my kids that the church/sect they belong to isn't important, it's Jesus.

The poster is a great reminder: Isn't it a shame when teammates forget they're playing for the same team?
                  Regarding the 2nd Amendment:
"...to disarm the people ― that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them." George Mason ("The Father of the Bill of Rights")

                  Regarding Life and Death:
"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28

The BIG question: "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?" Matthew 27:22b

Though I do not agree they are brothers in Christ and for that I do respect them but I do think that it ultimately leads people away from Christ as one does not experience the love of Christ when locked in a small theology.

Thank you for sharing the videos. While I still do not agree with the TULIP and Calvin doctrine, I know it is important to understand what people belive and why they belive it.

I have found in the past many (not all) attack Calvinism based on things they have heard from others and not on correct understanding of what we believe. I myself think the two sides should work to get along. I do think the other side are brother's in Christ. if they don't feel the same way that between them and God. I as a Calvinist attended and was baptized in a Church of God of Prophecy and had no problem worshipping there.

I wasn't going to post here anymore, but I'll make this exception. If there is anyone out there looking at this thread and is earnestly trying to understand the issues involved with the theology of "Calvinism" or the Reformed faith I would be happy to talk privately. Whether by PM, email, on the phone or even in person if local. What I won't do is publicly post rebuttals to the historically wrong, ignorant, and asinine comments posted so far.

Whoa thin skinned and still upset at a thread that has been very mild and for the most part respectful. Too bad.

Read The Formula of Concord - the genius of even the second generation of Lutheran fathers is, they ANTICIPATED - and headed off at the pass - Calvin's errors... 50 years BEFORE there was a Calvin!
