Gee where is this mythical community comprised of only cops and soldiers???

Every day after work, I, along with my other cop friends went back to our homes spread throughout our towns... Just like every other citizen...

We pay our bills, and live our lives just like every other person, side by side with non LEO's .

I think you have a big chip on your shoulder, and are a very narrow minded individual..

"Mayberry" is a mythical town.. Just like you mythical "M4 toting black clad patrol officer"...

What was the bearcat doing at the school anyway? Did you forget to mention they were there because the school asked for a show and tell?

By saying you want less equipped cops, you're saying it's ok if they aren't as prepared or protected. You're opening an interesting door there.

Basing an opinion simply on looks (that cop isn't friendly because he's wearing tactical gear) sounds familiar. Didn't judging people without ever talking to them get America in trouble a few times in the past? People would find a lot of happy cops if they walked up and said "how ya doing?" Instead of holding a cell phone up and asking "was it you...." or some other provoking phrase.

I would happily wear a nice t-shirt and slacks, revolver with a speed loader, and no vest. I just need to get folks to stop trying to hurt me. CMMV, When you can work it out that no one will attack me at random, let me know and I'll turn in my tac vest.

Like you implied, this isn't a war zone, its home. We can't just "pull the troops out" and see what happens.

Hopefully one day people like you will initiate a POSITIVE discussion between the community and the LEO, where people will realized that we
"civilians" and Leo are caught up together in this BS .

        According to PE
        Quote
[ God takes care of ol' folks and fools
While the Devil takes care of makin' all the rules
        Folks don't even own themselves
Payin' mental rent to corporate presidents

If you seek then you shall find that we all come from the Divine
if you take heed to the words of wisdom
That are written on the walls of life
        then universally we will stand
And divided we will fall ]

Everyone knows that LE are human beings and make mistakes. The question is why aren't they held accountable for their mistakes like they will hold any other "normal" person? Manslaughter is a jail sentence for most but paid leave for others. Do their job duties somehow make them exempt from the law they are suppose to uphold?

Please tell me the name of a LEO that was convicted of Manslaughter that was sentenced to paid leave.

Ignorance is not a good starting place for a argument...

Cops are held to the same laws as everyone else, and in addition have department rules and standards which a NON LEO would not have to consider.

Before any person can be charged with "manslaughter" there has to be a investigation. Investigations can take months, as seen in the Darren Wilson case...

Before any charging decision by a DA or Grand Jury the LEO is off on paid leave...

Now if a non LEO were to kill a suspect, that person could simply return to their job the next day and probably no one would know unless that person told someone. They too would wait for a charging decision from the DA or grand jury.

So thats why a LEO is off on paid leave..

Now if the DA or Grand jury were to charge a LEO, generally the agency would terminate them.

'Convicted'? They are not even being tried to for the same actions as other people would, let alone convicted.

So if it's decided not to charge a LEO in a situation when a "normal" person will always end up with the charges - how is it not a lack of accountability?

Good post, This country is forgetting the many that risk their lives daily to protect us. I know several LEO's and all of them joined the profession to help serve and protect the communities that they themselves live in. With all the crap going on many are now just going through the motions.

We highlight the few bad's that happen and forget the good deeds. Why is it that 1 cop makes a mistake and the entire community of LEO suffers? What happens when the 1 cop makes a difference in a person life, saves a life, or suffers the ultimate sacrifice and dies trying to save a life? No banding together as a nation, When a banger shoots a cop dead cause hes a "Pig" theres not threats to that persons family/friends. Their family will not have a gofundme that reaches 10-20k in days. they are only remembered by the brothers they work with and their family.

We give the spotlight to the bad and that breeds more bad.

wheres the spotlight for these men, who help turn communities around..

one day i hope we get america back, until then thank you for your service all LEO and MIL and stay safe.

I might have an answer: maybe because the LEO community protects this cop instead of hanging him out to dry, as you suppose to do with one rotten apple. And when this happens other people start thinking what side is LEO community on - of the general public or of the cop that disregarded his duties and the law.

DA's and Grand Juries decide not to charge "normal people" all the time.
Funny how when this happens to a "normal person" we just assume that there wasn't enough evidence to go to trial and there aren't all these claims of special treatment. I guess "normal people" must be special.

I can tell you, as a law abiding citizen, in all my encounters with policemen, 80% left unpleasant trace only because of the way they talk.
And all encounters were like a little chat, asking for directions, watching them drive and such.
Easy question, why policemen while driving, never use turn signals? but if i do not use turn signal, what is gonna be? They always drive above speed limits, why? What should i think about it? In my little experience with them policeman act like they are above the law or they are the law themselves.

I want to believe that the most policeman are good guys and a couple of rotten apples spoils the picture, but it is what it is

Wow that flew right over your head huh. When was theat time you got a ticket for not using a turn signal? Have you ever thought maybe that cop was speeding to get to an emergency call? Or a call that wasn't by policy considered am emergency but required the officer to be there asap? It's people like you,who are narrow minded and always feel the need to degrade LEOs and what the do.

I would encourage you to research the grand jury indictment process. It is a far more complex process than the "ordinary" routine. So to say cops are not being tried (when trial comes AFTER a finding of probable cause) is an ignorant statement. I would listen to your argument if grand juries hadn't heard both cases, or if no court process had occurred at all. Every single OIS is investigated by a district attorney's office. Sometimes that investigation is deferred to the grand jury to be more thorough and transparent.

I don't consider myself an expert in law, but I'm far better than average. That being said, I feel I have an educated opinion on law.

I am not an engineer, and I imagine I have much less education than required to form an opinion about engineering. That being said, I would never second guess an engineers judgment or try to tell them about structural integrity.

Yes, read the vehicle code. But it is up to the citizen to be educated on that code and assure compliance with it. Just like citizens ability to arrest. You better know what you're doing.
