Question...anyone switching back to 9mm?

Wait until you get your issued M&P 9mm. I am an unabashed Beretta fanboy, but there is really no contest between the two as far as lighter weight, higher capacity, better sights, integrated rail, and much quicker and more accurate first shot. Hopefully that transition happens sooner rather than later, but I've already been carrying my personally owned M&P for a while.Duty weapon is my Beretta 9mm. I bought the HK USP .45 and was considering making the transition, but after studying up on ballistic and OIS reports, and attending several shooting course, I made the decision to stay with my Beretta.
I've been told that with advances in ammo, the 9mm is just as deadly as .45 when it comes to "center mass" hits. You don't start to see a difference between 9mm and .45 until you start hitting collateral areas of the body (limbs).
Bottom Line is I'm a better shot with my Beretta 9mm than my HK USP .45. And I've learned that it is all about shot placement, rather than caliber size. No such thing as a "one shot, one kill" with handguns.
Just my opinion...Comment

Never carried an issued Glock, have always carried my personal Sigs. In one of our most recent OISs the deputy got one round out of the 21 and the mag fell out. It wasn't his grip, it was a seated mag and our range has no explaination for what happened other than offer up the fact they are seeing many different kinds of malfunctions with the 21s over the last year. Many of them are FTEs, FTFs and broken parts. If I carried one that would scare me enough to either go to the other issued Glock (17) or if I insisted on a 45acp to go out and buy my own non-G21 in 45acp.The satisfaction of a job well done is to be the one who has done it

The armorer (this was 2 years ago), just gave me some new mags and thought that would cure it... I was going through Hogan's Alley and my G21 kept jamming... so every shot or two, I had to clear the malfunction.
At least I got a lot of practice clearing jams and using cover when I am not on the trigger. Glad to see that I automatically go for cover everytime the gun is silent. That was what I gained from that exercise.I like guns

Yeah... hiding behind cover and yelling out, "OH ****! GODDAMN IT! NOT AGAIN! **** **** ****!" did not amuse the instructors nor give me much joy on that course... it just so happened to be that time when they did the timed run to see how fast we can get through the course too. As you may guess, I wasn't in the top 5... heck, I might not even be in the time bracket allowed.I like guns

I have been running the G21 with Winchester +p and have never had an issue, nor do I get jams or ftf or fte, nor have I had any broken parts....how come all of your G21's suck? LOLComment

Are you an LEO? Different kinds of +p ammo and many with different pressures, what are you running through yours? How many rounds do you put through it a year? The satisfaction of a job well done is to be the one who has done it

Carried a 92FS Centurion until the USP 45 was allowed. I carried that until the P220 was allowed. I have been carrying that since. I love the way it feels, and I shoot well with it. Number of rounds has not been too much of a consideration, as I am pretty quick at mag changes, and have a 4 magazine pouch. As I find myself getting a little older and and having to contend with back issues and nerve damage in my hands, I am looking to possibly go back to the 9mm. I like my 92FSC, but I may have to look at the M&P. When is the LASD looking to swap out the Berettas? I have not heard that rumor!Comment

Word is with the next patrol school in March, deputies may transition to the M&P with light during the range portion. The department's goal is to complete the department wide transition by 2014. Once enough weapons are in stock, patrol deputies MAY transition during CPT training.
That was the "official" word offered by our operations lieutenant."Carpe noctem"Comment

I read a article in the NRA magazine that some Police Dept's were going back to 9mm from 40W because there officers were having trouble re qualifying with 40 SW.
After swapping back to 9mm there was a vast improvement, so what does that tell you about the accuracy of 40SW, or larger calibers in general.Comment

I don't think this speaks to the overall accuracy of the round as it does to the training practices of individual officers. Well, that and the possible officers themselves. I am of short stature (but of sound, well grounded body mass!), and I shoot my .45 better than my 92FS in part because I like the weapon better, it feels good in my hand, and I practice on my own time and own dime.I read a article in the NRA magazine that some Police Dept's were going back to 9mm from 40W because there officers were having trouble re qualifying with 40 SW.

Departments also, for the most part but not all, do not provide their personnel enough weapons training. We get MORE THAN ENOUGH cultural diveristy, verbal judo ( gerbil voodoo wooosa!) and touchy feely training, but too little trigger time.
Less recoil and less muscle mass usualy equates to better accuracy in a lighter round."Carpe noctem"Comment
