    Question...anyone switching back to 9mm?

OK, I'm doing some research. Does anyone know of any departments who are switching back to a 9mm platform from something else (40, 357 Sig, .45...)?

If so, do you know the "why" behind it?

For those who switched back individually, I'd love t hear your input too.

I'm going to 9MM from 45 (Sig P226 from H&K USP 45). Weight is my 1st reason. 2nd, in gelatin testing my dept's Ranger SXT 230gr 45 performs excellent. In the real world, my dept's experience shows it doesn't reliably expand. The Ranger SXT 147gr 9MM's real world performance is excellent.

I guess the results could be a wash if you consider a 45 that doesn't expand and a 9MM that does has almost the same diameter. Then again when you shoot steel plates there is no question as to the 45's power. This debate will never end.

I read the LAPD is issuing Glock 9mm instead of .40 at the academy. I dont know the reasons. ( not a LEO)

Would if I could. Quicker follow up shots and more capacity. Like you said, this argument will go on forever!

You will need the extra bullets when shooting 9mm.

Unless you are German, under 99 lbs., or pee sitting down, go with the .45ACP.

LAPD is issuing 9mm Glocks, switching from the .40 caliber. Ballistic gell testing of the current issue ammunition shows little difference between the two rounds, but the primary reason for the change is cost.

And that is always the final deciding factor.......

I used to carry a H&K USP 45. Now I carry a Sig P226 9mm. The pistol fits my hand very well, and comfortable to shoot. Also, 9mm shoots softer for me. I don't care about stopping power. I work at the crime lab and have seen enough non premium bullets doing the job. RA9T is a good ammo.

I briefly used my USP. 45 but I switched over to the M&P 9mm. I shoot it better and can make faster follow up shots.

I believe that shot placement and scoring hits will win the day.

Winnre please enighten us all as to how you came to your conclusive analysis regarding the weakness of the 9mm cartridge. It seems that most of those officers here prefer it and I doubt any of them pee sitting down.

I don't know if I'll need the extra bullets because I've been fortunate not to have been in a shooting. Did your shooting(s)
yield ballistic evidence of 9mm failure or .45 superiority? Please share it with the forum if so. Thanks!

Never left 9mm pre ban Sig226 w/5 16rnd mags for me and sig 2022 9mm for the wife.
Can reload and shoot 1000 rounds a month for less than $100. I can shoot more pumpkins, steel plates and soda cans for less money.

                        I would carry a 9MM if I could. I am a surgeon with every 9MM I own.

I have the M&P in both .45 and 9mm. I shoot the 9 much better, hands down. Add that I get 18 rounds vs. 11 rounds, and I'd choose the 9 as my duty weapon if I wasn't retired.

The RA9T is a great performing round.

I tried to switch to a 9 when I had to go dimlight qual Thursday night....range was all out of them.

So after I qual'd, I snuck some online time before going in service and ordered 3 MecGar 15rd .40 cal mags.....

Exactly....my fiancee' is a F'n insane shot with her issued P226 9mm....she sits down to pee, I can assure you that. Plus she's 8 months pregnant...so I know for a fact she's a chick through and through.....

My ego isn't that big and I don't talk any crap to her about it....plus I don't wanna get sent to the couch for the night.
