Not to be rude, but this is kind of question that was not thought through well.

Do you see the DWP fix every broken water main? The fire department put out every fire?

Maybe the answer is because your not everywhere at one time?

    Hope it helps.

It's a numbers game like others have said. Theres one officer for every hundreds, if not thousands of drivers on the fwy. My fav was riding to work, never fails when jerk offs jump the double yellow right in front of you. Well someone did that and little did they know a motorcop was right behind me, I let him pass, he lit them up. Sweet justice.

Oh and I've gotten a ticket so yeah they are out there and they do enforce vc.

I don't know the numbers for # of CHP officers working the roads now vs say 20 years ago when there were less people on them; but lets just say that I know of some counties that have 1(?!) CHP unit working graveyard shift.

Not to mention how accidents or assisting other agencies with emergencies can really bog down CHP units (for instance, in many counties CHP takes all collision reports for crashes on highways that don't have their own PD).

I'm glad to hear others see people pulled over all the time I just thought it strange that in over six years out here I would have seen at least one. Now when I lived in Texas I saw DPS pull people over all the time which I very much enjoyed and appreciated. There has been a L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy slowing down the bad speeders on the street I live on and again I greatly appreciate his efforts. I am not trying to bash CHP, it just has been a BIG frustration to me so I had to ask. From what I have observed there needs to be a LOT MORE CHP on the freeways. Are they that under staffed?
Go to off topic, there are hundreds of threads from people complaining about getting a traffic ticket from 'the man' so it clearly happens. And I don't know how DPS makes stops, but only an idiot would make a stop on the freeway.

So you probably dont see to many CHP making stops on the freeway because most of the officers are pulling those drivers completely off the freeway for the stop.

I didn't even bring that one up... good point!

Another thing to consider is that many people will take the exit ramp and pull off the freeway when getting pulled over so it's likely you wouldn't see them.

OP, I think your lack of seeing CHP action is just some kind of fluke. I see people pulled over by CHP all the time in San Diego and on my travels back and forth between SD and the Sacramento area. Drive up the I-5 from the Grapevine to Sac a few times and you'll see CHP posted up and pulling people over. I see it often enough on the city highways as well.

The most fun I ever had watching the CHP pull someone over was the time traffic on 101 was slow with a semi in the #2 lane and cars on either side only very slowly passing the semi. I managed to get into the #1 lane in my VW bus and was slowly inching my way up the left side of the semi, held back by another car in front of me. All this time some jerk in a 5 series BMW is on my ***. Like 6" from my bumper. I'd seen him earlier in my rear view mirror tailgating all the other drivers and making quick and dangerous lane changes. A total jerk in a hurry to go nowhere.

As I got closer to the front of the semi, maybe half way up, the other driver cleared the front of the truck and I saw why the traffic was going slower than usual. There was a CHP cruiser just in front of the semi and I think he was waiting for someone to blast by the semi. Since the BMW was still on my *** and ranting and fuming, I decided to simply lift just a bit and slowly drift back to the rear of the semi. I then moved in behind the semi and the BMW accelerated up the left side like a rocket. By the time he cleared the front of the semi, he was doing well over 100. That's when he flew by the CHP. A mile or so down the freeway, I saw the BMW pulled over by the CHP and had an excellent laugh.

To me at least that constitutes not only speeding but reckless driving. Look I know I am a hard *** on traffic laws and I drive 5 miles over the posted speed limit trying not to get run over here and still get people run up on my rear end and act mad I won't speed more. I have lived and driven in several metropolitan areas but the drivers here are the rudest and worst dangerous speeders I have ever experienced and yes if my wife would listen to me I would leave California.
So why are you mentioning this here instead of contacting your local CHP office?

So you are the one going 5 mph under the limit two miles behind the nearest car in the number one lane, forcing everyone to pass you on the right. I am wondering why CHP doesn't give you a ticket for impeding traffic
