I don't see the problem here.

LA has clearly figured out the gun violence thing, let Moonbeam know that he can veto all that garbage that's gone through committee, have a few more gun buy backs, and call it a day.

Repeat. Repeat. The thread title has not been verified. No link has been provided by anyone.

Just because there are two pages of responses doesn't mean the whole thing isn't bogus.

IIRC (from memory) the quote is something like

"gang violence has dropped in the city of los angeles since 2000 by 66% due to police efforts that include this gun buyback program"

So no, Mayor V. didn't say it was solely due to the program, but he did leave that impression, given that the statement was in the context of 2/9's fawning (and self serving) buyback coverage.

Last night on the channel 9 KCAL news they attributed the drop in gang homicides exclusively to the gun buyback. I had to rewind and watch it three times because I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

                I found it: here

And, yes, the Mayor did sound like he was giving full credit to the buyback for the drop in crime.

This is worth watching just to keep rewinding to see everything that was turned in.

1:03 - "A 66% drop in gang homicides since we started this program".

In the newspaper article from 4/05, Villaraigosa goes on at length about these same crime statistics and makes no mention whatsoever about the buyback program.

Funny how they spin it to suit their treasonous agenda.

Is that what Villaraigosa and Beck said?

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

So, maybe we should keep track.

Facts tend to kill the euphoria based on lies.

What are the rates then, now and it would be interesting to revisit in 3 months, 6 months and a year.

would love to see pictures from all the gun buybacks so I could get a look at all the middle age moms and dads (gangbangers) who got rid of guns they never used and were tired of having sit around (turned their guns in to give up a life of crime)

What amazing improvement!!! I guess we can say Mission Accomplished! Problem Solved! Now no need for new gun control right?

Heck, let's even loosen things up a bit since the buy backs reduce crime more than any ban ever did. Waddya say? huh? huh?

I remember a statistic showing that 82% of statistics are 53% unreliable

                                LoL ok

So, Villar just claimed 66% but 4 months ago he was touting a "39 percent drop in gang crimes "
A gun buyback event held Wednesday was so popular that LAPD officials ran out of the gift cards they were using as an incentive.

And they insinuate a connection with the buyback program that had taken apx 8000 guns 'off the street' in 4 years

However LosAngeles residents purchase 73000 guns per year ( officially )

                                Very shaky logic
