I suppose a standard 1911 slide with the front moved back I've heard cutting the lugs is a nightmare.

do the outer walls have any taper?

is the trigger slot just an oval slot straight through or does it have any sort of taper or ledges or anything?

i would like to make it as follows, tell me if you think this would work or if it would miss any geometry:

setup 1: as you have shown in picture #1. outer profile and trigger guard pocket.

setup 2: rotate 90 degrees, mill out slot

setup 3: make a jig to do screw holes and counterbores

tada!

do you know of anyone else that might want one?

the more people that want this the cheaper it gets and the more likely it will happen

The walls don't have any taper but if you wanted to add a bevel I wouldn't protest haha.

i dont know how much it would cost..im willing to just give it a shot and see if i can make it work then look backwards and figure out what i should charge lol..an ammo trade could work out

im thinking that the only critical geometry is the upper surface that interfaces with the rifle and everything else is pretty much cosmetic or non-precise, does that seem right?

do you have a way to scan a hand-drawing? like a sheet-fed or flat-bed scanner? if so you could trace the outline of it (picture #1) and then email it to me and I could attempt to make a model of it in solidworks. a digital camera probably wont work it distorts things.

getting the bolt hole locations correct and at the correct angle will need some cleverness

if you had two rods that you could stick into the bolt holes on the rifle, and they were long enough to intersect, you could then measure the angle between them and that would help. youd need the rods to be a tight fit or if possible be threaded rods with nuts. so you screw in the rods into the rifle like long studs, then tighten them down with nuts, and that should make them relatively straight for the angle measurement. it'd be nice if you did it with a protractor, even a cheapy clear plastic one..but you could also just trace the rod outlines and i could measure the angle in solidworks

so lets say we have the angle between the bolt hole axes

now we need the 2D X,Y locations where the bolt hole axes intersect the surface of the rifle. you might be able to accurately mark that somehow with something flat on the same piece of paper you trace the profile on.

Keep in mind that the sample he has is undersized due to shrinkage so you need to figure out the actual dimensions that it needs to be to fit properly into the stocks...

off hand most of the stuff i would want would be made on a lathe

maybe a mini 14-10/22 titanium buttplate maybe taking out the curve looking kind of like an ar-15 a2 buttplate

I need a butt plate for a wood stock Valmet M76 AK... Originals cannot be found and they are not reproduced. I saw a guy that machined them awhile ago on a forum and they went like hot cakes because anyone who has that rifle knows the factory plates are briddle and always crack.
