For example, i think that this one is nice:

Daniel Defense makes nice ones too. No BS, just slim enough to function. However, the nice slim ones made out of aluminum may be too malleable, but TI could solve that issue.

I don't know much about the flashlights, but I've been looking into one for a long time...and I'll tell you, as a prospective customer, there is a lot of crap out there in the mounts market, and the good stuff costs a pretty penny because they have a famous logo on it.

    What do you think?
i'm iffy on working on AR accessories because I dont have that rifle and dont know much about it, plus its so popular its hard for me to believe that there isnt a "bad *** awesome" version of pretty much every accessory for it

other than that, I'd totally be up for it, it is a huge market! I guess I would just need a bunch of people to say "we really want this"...or, Id have to get the rifle and get familiar with it then understand what needs to be made

Well the best part is that you don't need the rifle, but simply a quad rail...The reason I said AR and not any other rifle platform is because those rifles are the most versatile and something everyone plays around with.

About the "bad ***" version of the mount, there are "awesome" versions of anything and everything. If there isn't, well it hasn't been invented yet and will not be simply spoken about on a forum. People want value! If your mount costs the same as a bad *** version, being similar products, but yours is made out of higher quality material...customers will by your product. I saw some video before about marketing and a the guy said "It's not what you know, but who you know to copy off of". If you can improve an existing product and make it more valuable, why not? Remember most of the expensive bad *** mounts have a well-known logo on them...Mills don't discriminate on quality. So if they can do it, so can you.

        hmm okay..how about this...

whats odd about this thread is there have been lots of ideas, but no two people have mentioned the same idea!

what I have to offer is a very well equipped home machine shop and the willingness to spend alot of time working on a niche product or something maybe 10 people want. but I gotta get at least that many people together..or whatever is the point where Im not spending 3 weeks of toolpath and machining to give 2 guys a part for $50 haha

I really do want to make something that makes you guys excited..its just gotta be the right thing.

the little one-offs im doing for a couple people are really easy and are just for fun..so the usual rules dont apply

but if im going to make a bunch of something, especially if its for a gun i dont own and am not familiar with, i need to "crowdsource" the design because im flying blind...

Dude, follow your own advice. Trust me.

He made a significantly incorrect statement about building a copy of a rostered gun to be a rostered gun. Then instead of responding to my post, he waved it off with a "meh"

If you read any of his other posts, you can see that trolling and arguing well established methods is his main goal. Too bad really, as he could stick to making things which he seems to do well.

It's not odd that no ideas have been said twice, everyone wants in on your offer of a free part. What is their incentive otherwise? I believe you said that you're not very knowledgeable on firearms, so thats why I'm assuming you came on a gun forum to ask people with hands-on experience. Remember, you came to us, not the other way around. There is no free lunch!

How could you make us excited for a product if you only want to make it for a niche market? You might as well just offer machining services. I will probably never have a need for the ideas that you've previously decided to take on. That is why you're have trouble finding your 10 customers. There were tons of good ideas posted here that would help you get started.

This is a forum. The 2A threads are for discussing legal ideas. I've spent all day researching gun laws and coming up with I think is a clear and concise argument as to what I think. What is your problem?

You spent a whole day on this? Wow, thank you! Not like anyone here has been doing this for 5-10 years.... I only have a problem with people who dismiss the work and knowledge of others, when they have no previous education or experience in the subject. You came here and said you don't know anything about guns and you aren't a lawyer, then proceeded to argue with everyone who tried to help you.

I'm done talking to you now, it's a complete waste of time.

I think you're misinterpreting what I'm saying. I've already taken on two one-off projects.

By niche market I mean very small quantity things.

In the automotive forums I've usually gotten several "me too" reactions when one person mentions some idea and a bunch of other people chime in. Im just waiting for that to happen here. Its the most fun and motivating when a group is on board for something.

That gives you no excuse to falsely accuse him of insulting this forum or anyone on it. No one has to follow your advice (even if it is correct). What you should've done (this is my opinion and you don't have to follow it. ) Is to politely inform him that he may not be following the law or have an incorrect interpretation of it. Then simply site the penal code. If he doesn't follow your advice then maybe say "be careful, don't say I didn't tell you" or something. Just because we are on the internet doesn't mean we shouldn't be polite to one another.

ziconceo, I totally forgot to check my email for your drawing!

I just did and it looks okay. But Im not sure its 1:1. That finger hole looks pretty small. Can you tell me how long the two lines you drew for the screw angles are? measure from where they touch the trigger guard to where they intersect each other. Then I'll verify that its 1:1

Haha no problem and no rush man

And no problem, it said it was 8.5 inches by 11 inches in Photoshop (the whole picture) but transferring anything over the internet and keeping scale seems to be a challange. I'll give you the measurements tonight when I make it back home in about an hour or so. Don't listen to the "control trolls" they are all over the internet. This forum has plenty of awesome members and plenty to offer so don't give up on it just yet

okay sounds good! the lines you drew are pretty precise, and since they intersect it should be pretty easy to measure their length end to end..once i know that i can scale it and make a model

I get you loud and clear. So you want a bunch of people to chime in and work together to come up with a design so that they can buy it off you. You said you wanted to do something that wasn't done before. That won't work here or anywhere else. I'd advise you to ask the fellas over at the Curio and Relic subforum because parts may be in need. However, coming up with a new product...forget about it! You must give everyone something out of it then, otherwise the only people that are benefitting is you and the one guy who posted the idea first.

Cool! You are officially left out of any group buys!

And so is anyone else that thinks I should spend weeks of effort designing models, toolpaths, machining prototypes, using up coolant, and standing over a screeching mill for 10 hours a day, so that I can make people something they want at a price they want, and then "give them something out of it".
