I had a buddy who bought a spot welder from Curtis and he messed up the tips after one receiver. He ended up spot welding his rails in so many places and puts holes in both sides. I found this out after I used his spot welder, AFTER IT DID IT TO MINE. I fugged up by not staring closely at the tips. FUGGG!Saiga 12 IZ-109

Here is a tip I learned from the SoCal BPI had a buddy who bought a spot welder from Curtis and he messed up the tips after one receiver. Grab a rag and some cold water, in between spot welds wet the rag with the water and put it on the tips to cool it down. This will help save the tips, I believe 69Mach1 told me he use the same tip on his spot welder for over 50 aks or something like that.
People rush and don't let it cool down, others aren't making sure the side of the tips aren't touching the rails, and the last thing I would say to do is give it a little twist when you are done spot welding to make it easier to pull of the receiver of the tip.Comment

I've had a couple of builds where the spot welds failed. I've taken every precaution but to no avail. On all the failed receivers, I drilled through the receiver and then mig welded through the hole to re-attach the rail. It's ugly... but it holds now.
I used NDS receivers for my last couple of builds... defeats the purpose of "home-building" but at least the welds will hold.Comment

All joking aside the same thing happened at the Canyon Counrty Build party. It started acting up when it was my turn to weld. The same thing happened.we held it for 6-7 secs for a good glow and then after the weld you tap the rail and it would just fall off. I don't know what the cause was but you could ask CSACANNONER. I think he fixed the problem later on that day.Comment
