    Left rail weld won't take..

Anyone ever have an ejector rail that just won't take the spot welds? Clean surfaces, clamped, different pressures and hold times, same outlet as always. Ridiculous. Ideas?

Did you rough up the surfaces that will be welded together?

Make sure the tip of the spot welder looks good?

Have only used this tip on 4 or 5 guns.

Make sure the rail sits flush on the receiver wall and be sure you are lining it up correctly as well. Look at your receiver from the rear to make sure you bent it correctly.

The surfaces need to be clean and oil free for the resistance weld to fuse everything. Make sure the contact points are clean, lined up, and hold tight at a point. That current needs to be focused on a point to heat that spot enough to weld correctly.

Not saying your tip is messed up but it's possible to mess up the tip after a few times if you don't let the tip cool down in between each spot weld. The other thing I can think of is make sure the tip is not touching any metal on the sides of it when it is spot welding.

Yeah, I'm at a loss on this one. Have de-greased it, worn gloves, clamped surfaces, filed my points and chk'd allignment. Wondering if it is an issue with current. Having to hold 8-9 seconds to get a glow. The rail will hold, then I just tap it on the bench and it falls out. Pissed. I might have touched the side a few times, but literally 30 weld spots and not one has held.

You can take a file and take off any corrosion on the tip. Also make sure you sand your rail and the inside of the receiver as well .

Definetly something wrong with your welder. 8-9 seconds you should be putting a hole in your receiver. Time to go back to HF and exchange it.

Unless you've got some kind of powersupply issue. We did have that problem at the first party in San Diego. Is there some other load on the circuit you're using that wasn't there before. Maybe an electric space heater? It is much cooler out than it was a few months ago.

shouldn't take 9 seconds to glow, more like 3 or 4. Try another outlet closest to your power panel.

OK, lets start from the beginning.

Is this only one receiver your having trouble with or multiples?
                          Brand of flat?
                          Brand of spot welder?
                          type/ shape of weld tips?
Did you heat and oil quench the whole rail?
can you try a different receptical- closer to breaker box?
For any questions contact me by email.
                          Thanks,
                          Justin

Sounds like your flat has a bunch of mis-weld spots on it. Drill some holes in the flat (where the rail is gonna go) and mig-weld them bad boys in place. Grind flush and... Walaa, Done!

Just before bed went out and ran through the checklist. Fired it up and it wouldn't even get hot. Welded the right rail just before all this happened just fine, so you can see the confusion. Got it from Curtis, so I'll see what his return policy is. Thanks everyone for the input.
