Just got back from my first time at FS, though it may have been a bit...much. Took 9 classes over a 5 week period, and one of those weeks was spent elsewhere. 2D and 4D shotgun, 2D M16, 4D handgun, 4D practical rifle and 4D marksman, handgun skill builder, tactical and advanced tactical handgun.
With a Commander membership and camping out, my only real expenses were for food, gas and ammo once a week. Overall I'm very pleased with how things worked out. Going to upgrade to a Presidential membership and head back in the fall to take the Tactical class progression in private lessons."....And that was fear. It is your constant enemy, and at once your most faithful companion. It is against it that you will fight. Come to love it like a brother, and it will never surprise you." - Born for the SaberComment

What I am is tired. Still was one of the best times of my life though. Anyone have Presidential memberships for sale/trade?
I'll agree with the previous comments on the 4D Marksman course. The real score killers are the standing offhand shots at 35 and 50yds. Everyone with a heavy precision rifle was hating life until they could get out to 150yrds where they could go prone and kick out their bipods. It was the 3rd class (Jan 28th?) and no one had graduated yet. The highest score was down 6 (one down for a G), he was running a .223 AR with 72gr ammo.
It was the most valuable class I took there in terms of learning fundamentals, even though it was a s#!tshow equipment wise. Thought I could use the same carbine from practical rifle. Wrong! Got stuck with a rental and took it with a sandpaper condom in ammo fees. The rifle was nice, but it wasn't till day 3 that we realized that the scope was broken and the huge groups weren't me. Got issued a completely different rifle on the morning of day 4, which left 2hrs to get used to it before the test. Scored a 9 (50%), which was still put me in 4th place.
Doing it over I would take a lightweight hunting/sporter bolt action in .308. .223 ARs will do with the right barrel/ammo, but crosswinds are tricky on range 13 for something that light. .260, .270, 6.5, 6.8, .30-06, anything like that would do well. Magnums are overkill. Lightweight bipods, preferably detachable. A sling that can be used for supported shots. Good glass with a BDC reticle, 3-9x, 2.5-10x, 4-12x, something in that range. Match ammo."....And that was fear. It is your constant enemy, and at once your most faithful companion. It is against it that you will fight.
