Commercial Russian ammo is lead CORE.
    Stay tuned.

Update: No steel jacketed ammo allowed.
Travis' reply, "If the bullet sticks to a magnet it will not be allowed. I realize the ammo says it has a lead core, but it is actually a "bi-metal" material and it will poke holes in our steel. Sorry."

All is not lost. I just need to buy another AKM for use with corrosive Yugo ammo.
This is from the rules page:
3.1 No tracer, incendiary, armor piercing or steel jacketed ammunition is allowed.NOTE!!! ARMOR PIERCING MEANS IT STICKS TO A MAGNET. IF IT STICKS TO A MAGNET, WHEATHER IT HAS A STEEL CORE OR NOT, YOU WILL BE ASSESED A 300 SECOND PENALTY. I WILL THEN ASSESS YOU ANOTHER 300 SECOND PENALTY FOR EVERY HOLE I FIND AND FINED $25 PER OFFENCE. THIS WILL BE DONATED TO THE JR PROGRAM OF MY CHOICE.

Also I just want to state that those thinking of shooting trooper class as their first ironman and/or their first trooper match are crazy. First timers are going to be way over their head and dead tired just from the shooting and resetting. To have to lug all that gear all over creation as well as all the planning, packing, repacking, etc etc.

It's a fun idea to think about but the amount of work is probably way more than people realize. I hope you guys have good backs and knees. Just watching those troopers dump those big packs on the ground and then putting them back on was painful. Mike G has the right idea with his saw horse backpack combo.

Hmmm....looks like I'll have to bring 4 guns out...since I'll need a long range gun since the AK can't reach 600....that sux.....gonna be hard to carry 4 guns in trooper class....unless I just use three guns and expect not to make the long range shots....decisions....decisions.

Hit me up if you Chabot crew gonna roll out to SacValley or Panoche to practice ur long range game....I need to brush up myself.

Hmmm...do I go M1A? AK47? Or AR? Too bad AK74 is out since I can't get affordable non magnetic 5.45....grrrrr.

You guys think the "ghettoman" can hit 600? Long barrel n all....

For the long range shots, how many shots are there? I have a bolt action 308. I'm sure that gives me a disadvantage because of speed and heavy metal. But, it is what I've got

Are you refering to using the bolt gun for the long range bonus targets (600 - 900 yards maybe 10 targets total for the match). That would work.

If your talking about using your bolt gun as your primary rifle for the match forget about it. You would time out almost all the stages.

I don't have a snow balls chance in hell to win but it would be a great challenge to even finish in Trooper.
10 targets? I will just skip them.

I was going to use the bolt gun for the long range. Should be interesting from that distance. Btw, what size plates are they? So, using a different rifle for long range. Is that allowed in tac optics?

Looks like we'll be headed to Sac Valley every first Satuday of each month for the next six months....lol.

I swear I'll find a way to mortar the AK round out to 600...lol.

Yes every division including tac optics may have a optional 4th dedicated long range rifle to be used specificly for designated long range bonus targets. (your lugging up this gun for 10 targets on one stage). Actual round count for LR bonus changes slightly but it's more or less the same.

Expect anything from 18x24 to something the size of a small car for big long range targets. They could always run standard mgm flashers if they were mean.

Looks like they just posted the dates on brianenos.

June 3-5 : open, limited, heavy optics, and trooper

                              June 7-9 : tac optics.

I'm going to enter tac optics. For the group trip, who is staying for parts vs the full week?
Does anybody shoot both? It will be my first, so I'm going to shoot only one. Besides, 5-6k ammo is a lot. About 1k round count per a lot, plus what I miss......

Good luck to you guys. I would be there this year, but committed to the Double Tap. For this to be your first major 3-Gun event....good luck. This is not a match for the uninitiated and definitely NOT in Trooper class. But...that my $0.02.

It is a great match and you'll have a blast.
