It is a great match and you'll have a blast.

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to get time off for SMM3G as well.

SMM3G is a GREAT match for someone's first major. It's not that it's not a difficult match. Truth be told, it's just difficult for different reasons, but you aren't shooting >100 rounds per stage like at the Ironman.

We'll be there and might have a bed for rent for some of my Cali brothers 'cause December 18th....we're gone!

They dropped the Pro/Am setup. Scoped tactical will be the 7-9th and everyone else 3-5th.

They did it last year and made a ton of sense. Especially if you can get resources/time to shoot both matches.

Does it matter? I thought we are all going for Trooper class, regardless of good advice from experienced Ironman veterans like Yar and uscbigdawg.

If your serious about shooting trooper consider getting a pistol caliber carbine for pistol. That was am ajor advantage for troopers in that they could extra guns and leave them around the stage for use. Of course extra guns means more stuff to carry. With the mgm double spinners etc the extra juice of the carbine barrel and accuracy of a rifle setup can make a difference. From what I saw the pistol carbine was favored over the pistol for many stages by troopers except maybe the zip line. Also if doing trooper you can have open gun so to be competitive in trooper you would want a open rifle, sagia open shotgun, pistol caliber carbine, semi auto long range rifle in 260 rem, 308, or 6.5 grendal. I've been thinking a rifled barrel benelli with 2x scope and sabbot slugs would slay the various long range slug targets. Just leave your slug gun on the in front of the slug arrays

Hope you guys start working out. I'm going to load up my bags this weekend and walk around the house for a bit to see how much I'll have to workout leading up to the MGM. Can't wait to see my wife's face.

Hmmmmmm. I guess I'll bring a Glock 34, Saiga 12, M1A, AR in 223 and AR in 9mm. If you use a carbine in a pistol caliber (for your pistol), will they have a dump barrel for it as opposed to the open platform for pistols?

Keep in mind too is that you can ditch kit if you declare you're not going to use it any longer.

At Fort Benning, I ditched my rifle with 2 stages to go since all that was left was a shotgun only and a shotgun/pistol stage. Ditched all ammo, mags and made the kit lighter.

So, be smart and look to see if there's a point where you can ditch gear.

Stay hydrated and start walking with a weighted pack. Probably like 20-30#'s to start and work up from there.

Space savings and weight savings are your friend.

For great info contact Russell at Cavalry Arms (SinistralRifleman on a lot of forums) since he was one of the founders of Trooper.

Huh? You're doing trooper class right? Can you carry 3 1/2 long guns and a pistol AND all the ammo for three days straight?

I was thinking of just going with my 20" LaRue, my Benelli M4, and my G22 and call it a day.

BTW.....do they allow rifle caliber "pistols" at Ironman?

                              You gonna shoot AR Dura?
Ironman is not letting us shoot any ammo that attract magnet (Wolf)....

We only have to haul gear from stage to stage. My plan is to carry the heavy stuff (ammo, water, cleaning kit) on my back in my 3 day pack. In each hand I can then just hold onto my two Voodoo Tactical bags that can each carry two long guns, two pistols and bunch of mags. This is the best way to balance it out. Shouldn't be too bad. If I can't hang any longer, I can just drop out and shoot open. Not planning on winning anyway, just trying to beat YOU!
