Talked to the "boss" last night about going. Of course se said no. But I have a couple of months to do honeydoos to change her mind.

Renting a U-Haul trailer is a good idea. If I can go, I can take my SUV. I can fit 7 others. Hotel shouldn't be too expensive.

I'd throw in transporting as that will be a question too.

When you pack your car and trailer put the esentials where you can get to them. That means guns. We break the drive into 1.5 days. So we drive hard to winnemuka and spend the night. At the hotel you'll want to pull out all your guns and your daypack. The car and trailer are packed in such a manner they can be left in the lot.

Next day you push on to parma and walk the stages. Takes about 4 hours to parma so get to the range around noon to walk the stages. After you walk the stages you grab what you need and drop the trailer. Oh get permission from the match director and he'll tell you where you can and can't drop the trailer. Generally you can get it somewhere you have easy access to it during the match.

Leaving the range to the match hotel you will always want your guns (if nothing else but to clean them) your mags, and enough ammo to pre load your mags.

Don't plan to do a lot. Your pretty much going to eat, clean guns/load mags, shower, and sleep.

Wow, with all of that extra weight from ammo, we should get better mpg coming home! Lol.

              Yar.

              Thanks for replying.

Do you recommend getting carts to truck our gear around? What about food? Drinks? I would imagine vendors around..

Does it take all day to finish all ten stages, or is that broken up into two days?

I could see where a cart would be helpful but you don't need it. You drive to stage to stage so you can keep most things in your car. A cart may save you a trip or two walk to the car.

They serve lunch and it is not bad. I would definately suppliment with my own food and water. There is a gas station/arbys across from the hotel. We ate breakfast there and grabbed a extra roast beef to go. Bring plenty of water goes without saying. Also plan on rain gear as it seems we get rained on at least one day most years.

Typically you shoot 4 stages a day. All stages have par times which is like 7 minutes max and yes people do time out. Even with 4 stages you could be shooting from 7am to 7pm. Stages because there are so many targets take awhile to reset. It has been better at recent matches. We had kick *** squads where people busted *** and we were leaving the range back to the hotel around 5-6 pm. On the last day you shoot 2 or 3 stages then wait for results and prize table.

Camping at the range is dry and using a real bathroom and shower after 12h on the range is def worth a little extra money and driving time in the morning.
                      Also, expect rain...

I would recommend against a cart, if it rains you dont want all your gear getting wet and if its dry it will all be covered in a nice layer of dust, so better to keep your stuff in the car until needed. Like Yar said, since you can usually park near the stages its not really an issue.

850 rounds... thats the lowest round count they've ever had, I think

If you want to do well in the match, you do need to bring a fourth long range semi-automatic rifle and know your holds/clicks out to 800yards or so, since the long range stage is one of the deciding stages. You'll do better with a bolt-action than without any long range rifle at all, but semis rule.

Gose, I see three targets beyond 300yds on stage 3 in the 2011 match.

Do you remember what's the approximate total number of long range (300yd+) targets for this past 2011 match?

The number of 100-yd slug targets present looks daunting, too.

Maybe 5-6 targets at 300+ that you shoot with your regular AR, which are scored as regular targets and 3 bonus targets at 500-900 yards that are bonus targets worth 15s / hit up to a max 5 / target. I think the winner of the long range stage 2011 had an adjusted time of 50s or so, and if you didnt shoot the long range targets you might have finished at around 250s.
The long range and the zip line stages are where you can give up the most points, on the other stages people will be pretty close together.

Well, the boss seemed to change her mind, so I might be able to go afterall.

So my understanding is if you shoot Trooper you can use all open guns as long as you lug it all around, correct? If for some reason I can't lug it all around during the match, then I get placed into open, scoped, or iron sight (depending what I've been shooting), right?

Not only do you have to carry your guns but all your gear to which you can not add or subtract.

Yes, if you fail out you get put into the division to which your guns dictate.

I think I'm able to carry 3 rifles, shotgun, pistol, 1000rds ammo, and all accessories no problem (you should see how full my hands are walking from the grocery store to my car Haha).

Since this is a multi day match, how do they control people adding/removing stuff between day 1 and 2 if they shoot Trooper?
