I use a lee pro 1000. Once you get past the learning curve, its pretty good, I like mine. It does take a bit of tinkering to get set up, but once there it is reliable and consistent

If you get into any progressive other than a Dillon or the Hornady system, you are really asking for a lot more hassle and I can see why you are thinking single stage is better.

None of the others even begin to compare to Dillon or Hornady. I prefer Dillon over Hornady but that has nothing to do with the Dillon being far superior, just a different animal, but both are far superior to any other progressives on the market, pretty much end of this story

I have the 550b, a Rockchucker and a freebie lee single stage.

yeah, doing small batches can be a pain on the larger machines and sometimes you don't want to buy a new toolhead and plates for some calibers (ie;45 colt or something).

However, my 550b is rock solid, I can easily never fiddle with it. AND you can run a single case all the way around in "single stage mode".

For the smaller batches of low volume calibers, I went and bought the Hornady quick change bushing adapter for my rock chucker and a bunch of the bushings. That should make it much easier to swap dies out (not that it's actually a hard thing to do without the bushings). For dies that won't have bushings allocated to them, I can use the cheapy lee single stage (ie decapping, deglocking, etc).

Let's not forget good ol' Lee Classic Turret as well. Seems simple and not very fiddly, and you can finish rounds one by one instead of in batches... plus the turrets seem reasonably priced..... the best of both worlds?

Please read my post again. Nowhere did I say Lee Pro is a POS. I said I could never get it to work right. In fact I have the small Lee single stage and love it.

It seems that EVERY time I see a post about a Lee brand progressive press, it is ALWAYS about the Pro 1000.

Once you get it to work properly I have heard wonderful things about them but for every 50 posts *****ing about a Lee Pro-1000 I hmmm, I have YET to see anything talking smack about the Load Master...

Perhaps you should buy a Loadmaster and see how that works for you.

I swear to god that I am going to buy one now just to see why nobody talks about them. (cause that is a good reason to buy a press...)

That's why I bought a LCT. I heard so many good things on forums that I bought it for fun. I already owned a few single stages and a Dillon. I was really impressed with the LCT.

I started progressive on a lee 1000 and it worked ok best thing was the shake it case feeder thing. anyway went to a Dillion 650 and was like going from a rattley old VW to a Mercedes.

I personally prefer a single stage because I like to visually check the powder level in each case when they are in a tray. The powders I use (Unique and IMR 4198) tend to be fluffy or bridges in the powder dispenser so a visual check gives me more peace of mind. Doing 100 per hour is good enough for me.

I use my 550 for 9,38,40, and 45. I use a single stage for 460mag, and 22-250.

That has gone almost completely under my radar.

I forgot about them having one but it DOES look nice. I like the APS strips for priming too, it feels safer then the priming tube crap I see everywhere. BTW, they just need to encase those priming tubes in acrylic already and be done with it. Then maybe they will stop blowing up. Make them out of carbon fiber or glass already...

I aint thrilled about that price, but I really want one of those auto indexers now because 1. It is RCBS, 2, It seems like the Lee Classic Turret, only bigger, better, and 3. it uses the APS primer strip method which is safer then the primer pickup tubes. Sadly, it is ALSO about $700...

Statement of facts is "fighting words"? By definition, half of the population is below average in mechanical ability/reasoning. I've seen the results of that half when they try to do something difficult; like change a flat tire. Or a light bulb, or use a ladder. It's pathetic, and yet they are allowed to purchase reloading equipment. There ought'a be a law or something!!

Oh yes, let's have even more restrictive laws, they work out so well for us. Maybe a Reloading Safety Card with a test. Maybe background checks for mechanical ability and a 10 day waiting period for components. Oh, and permits to buy components.

I run 1050's for volume rounds and 550's for the smaller quantities. So far I have no need to break out the RCBS single stage. The 550's do everything.
