Unjacketed bullets
Hi folks;always good to read your progress.I haven't been shooting much recently, but hope to remedy that soon.
Have any thoughts on using some of the commercially produced unjacketed bullets in our cannons?Past experience in handguns, and some rifles leaves me in question about the leading/fouling.What do you guys think?
Take care,and be careful.lol,DaveComment

Welcome Dave, Hard cast with gas checks will run to 3000fps without leading or clogging the gas tube and I highly recommend them in the LBT style, for all of the afore mensioned reasons and for others I haven't even thought of yet. Yep, day-good...tAnimal Rights Activist do indeed taste like Chicken, which is why I always carry extra Barbecue Sauce and what brand of Barbecue Sauce do we use? Correction Correction correction!
I earlier stated that I chrony'd the 275gr Barnes at 2200fps with 35grs of LilGun, THAT WAS A MISTAKE!
I chrony'd the 250gr Montana Gold at 2200fps with 37.9grs of LilGun.
With the Barnes 275gr I got 2000fps with 34grs, 2050, with 34.5grs and 2075 with 35 grs of LilGun.
I must of had too many cans of liquid accuracy when I got back from the range that day and transposed my memory. (I think I need to cut back on the brewskys)
Also that day, I had tried a load using some of my WC820, I have a lot of it for my M1 Carbine and it's said to be the same as AA#9, at 31.4 grs I had incomplete burns leaving powder in the barrel. Does that usually indicate too little powder?/2Comment

I'm getting allot of requests for brass now. I answered the last gentleman this way…
""Sorry, the rest I have is being used for LeMAG experimenting. Stay posted on this site, as tons of stuff has yet to be revealed. For instance, we have safe loads that outperform the 458 Winchester Magnums in energy, busting the long standing paradigms all to Kingdom Come! This data will leave them scratching their heads, complaining about all manner of calamities. But it’ll take awhile for that general acceptance, together we’ll work up to those loads, in this way we'll keep the Nay-Sayers and their safety/reliability/jealousy issues at bay somewhat, but only somewhat, as the Nay-Sayers are never without drama. Feel free to contact me in the future…t""
Yep, it's going to take awhile. As a group we'll have to prove the science all along the way. But then, as a group, it will be impossible for the Nay-Sayers to deny we have been successful. In this manner we’ll be doing the Shooting Community a real service…tAnimal Rights Activist do indeed taste like Chicken, which is why I always carry extra Barbecue Sauce and what brand of Barbecue Sauce do we use? Range report
I loaded some Zero 230 gr. FMJ and some Barnes 200 gr.XPB all using Lil' gun, looking for some upper limit velocities before seeing any signs of excess pressure.
Zero 230 gr. FMJ 2.1'' OAL:
33.8 - 2000 fps
34.5 - 2180 fps
36.1 - 2270 fps
38.0 - 2350 fps
39.5 - 2410 fps
No signs of pressure. 2.5'' groups @ 100yrds.
200 gr. Barnes XPB 2.24 OAL:
39.5 - 2500 fps
40.6 - 2630 fps
41.7 - 2690 fps
42.8 - chrony malfunction, I'm pretty sure they weren't going 4240 fps.
43.9 - 2710 fps
The last load showed very minor flattening on the primers, the rest looked no different than factory rounds. The Barnes bullets were all over the map, the 42.8 load was the only one that kept a group, 2'', with the rest, one would be near the bull and the other would be 6 to 8 inches away. However by the time I got to the Barnes bullets my barrel was probably pretty hot./2Comment

Hot barrels will do that. A little flatting is alright, keep in mind that the 6.5/284 (operating pressures of 63,000 psi and more) and most all of the WBY-Factory-Loads show significant flatting, just don’t get carried away with the pressure signs, earring on the safe side. Your speeds are impressive and reveal the start of the direction your loads will go, faster and faster, killing better and better, just do it safely. I believe, that with the right load and powder, you will easily see 2900/3000fps safely/with those 200 grainers. Are you using Magnum Small Rifle Primers? You will need them when you go to the slower powders.I loaded some Zero 230 gr. FMJ and some Barnes 200 gr.XPB all using Lil' gun, looking for some upper limit velocities before seeing any signs of excess pressure.

I have very little experience with Lil' gun, but I believe that it is faster burning than 296, which if true, 296 will lower your pressures, allowing you to up the charge and thus the speeds ( I still recommend AA1680 as your best bet, which is significantly slower than even 296 and I love 296/H110). If you have allot of lil' gun, then I guess you’re stuck with it for awhile, putting it to good use in the mean time. Which points out the need to buying small lots of powder, awaiting the day you've decided on which powder best soot’s your individual needs, then buying 8lb jugs and more, at a time.Last edited by Wildcatter; 10-09-2008, 3:27 AM.Animal Rights Activist do indeed taste like Chicken, which is why I always carry extra Barbecue Sauce and what brand of Barbecue Sauce do we use?
