It all changes in California after Jan 1 2017. If you don't have what you need now for reloading, it will probably be hard get stocked up on components then.

        OP,

        I believe so....

If you shop around for the best deal for projectiles. (Bullet)
It will save alot depending on perspective., It's the most expensive portion of the cartridge.

I reload on a progressive , Dillon, I pick up brass, so I save there.

Inexpensive primer, wolf,Tula, CCI(My firearms shoot great with this primer)
Buy Powder in 8# kegs = $140 Hodgdon CFE Pistol
With a 125 Gr. Hi-Tek coated bullet by

        $79/ 1k

After loading with 4+ gr charge(minor power factor) each cartridge comes out to about

$0.117 each Less than 12 cents!!!

Mind you, I try to reduce my cost as much as possible as I will consume north of 15,000 rounds a year as I'm active in practical shooting.

Evaluate you needs, factor in your time/reward of shooting. Which is why progressive presses are essential as you can load, much, much faster versus a single stage.

I Recommend Dillon or Hornaday LNL.

I somewhat enjoy reloading as its a means to the end. Shooting!

        Enjoy the journey....

              Win Primers $28/1K
              Nobel Sport BA-9 Powder $15.30/1K
              Precision Delta 124 JHP $89/1K
Brass Free (pick up at range)

For 1,000 premium, 124 JHP rounds it cost me $132.33. Let me know when you come close to finding a deal like that. (edit: no hazmat 'cause it's free when you order more than 10# of NS powder).

Reloading is well worth it. I run a LoadMaster and it's been flawless. I have had to tinker with it, but I knew that going into it. Plus I get adjustable primer depth, and priming on the downstroke (ram goes up, handle goes down). My whole set-up was less than $300, including case collator and bullet feeder. I can casually roll 800 rounds an hour.

Now that I am loading 9mm, I take back everything I said about it being not worth it last year.

I went from paying $215/case shipped per 1K of 115gr 9mm (Magtech 9A) to loading this stuff for $120 using a 115gr blue bullet. I didnt see any change in accuracy or performance.

That's $95 difference in price give or take.

If only I had started sooner.

If you actually like reloading, the monetary aspect of it almost becomes a secondary benefit. Its one of those labor of love past times...

Like most, I came for the savings, but I stayed for the hobby, knowledge, quality, satisfaction, rewarding feeling, accuracy/consistency, control, supply.

I learned more about guns and ammo and gained a much greater appreciation for all this stuff because of reloading... knowing what I know now and the experience I have I would probably still continue reloading rifle ammo even if I didn't want to do it anymore or cost the same as store ammo. The benefits to making your own are just too big for rifle ammo. Pistol, not so much, I pretty much stay for the savings, but its a long term investment and commitment to do it right. You have to spend a lot more up front if you want to save over time.

                    Is it worth reloading 9mm?

I got into reloading for the cost savings, but find it relaxing after a full day at the office. I have even had my wife tell me to go and spend an hour reloading to de-compress. It is relaxing.

                    Last 1K of 9mm I loaded for $90 per 1K.

I started out reloading 9mm, but now just about everything.

I started out with one press, now I have 5. I have 3 Dillon 450's, a RCBS Rock Chucker, and an Eagle Cobra press.

I believe its worth it. As many other stated, you can always make your own when there's a shortage.

I like to load 9mm due to the competitions I shoot. I can tune my rounds to my gun and have a soft shooting load.

It's not worth it to plink with or even compete for me. But Gunmegadon made me stock up on components and factory ammo. So I am reloading right now to shoot, saving my factory stuff as I think theyll keep longer.
