After reading post on reloading. Is it worth$$ reloading 9mm cost wise? Or do you do it more for getting away from the family or adds to the hobby? I'm thinking of reloading but not sure if its worth the time and cost. I shoot only about 300 rounds a week. LAX has a good price on factory reloads. Sure they are not perfect but not bad for steel plates. Input would be great, Thanks.

Is it worth reloading 9mm?

To me, reloading is as enjoyable as shooting, for a variety of reasons. However, with 9mm prices as they are presently, it's hard to make a financial argument for it. Come the new year though, I think you'll be glad to have the option available to you. -
I did the math on 9mm a while ago. You will save about $10 per 100 rounds. On a single stage press, it takes me about an hour to process 100 rounds.
So, to me, it's like getting paid $10 per hour. If you don't like to reload, then it is a minimum wage job. If you enjoy reloading, then it is like getting paid to have fun.

A few things to think about:
- Reloading isn't necessarily only about saving money. You get to develop the perfect load for your gun(s)/shooting style with bullet weights/types, powders, etc. Better quality round and QA IMO.
- In times of "crisis" (think post SH), was seeing 9mm in LGS (box of 50) for $60. So buy LOTS now while you can at current price levels, especially if you don't plan to reload.
- Beginning in 2017, you can't have ammo purchased online delivered to your home, would have to go to a "licensed" ammo whatever (still to be worked out) and they are supposed to charge a max of $10 per order on top of what you paid. Should be interesting to see how this works out.
- Will also be background check for purchasing ammo in 2017 it seems. Does that mean a waiting period as well or will the BC be instant? No one knows yet.
- Wouldn't be surprised to see limits (not sure in what form, maybe by Feds, maybe be LGS from a storage/holding perspective) on purchase quantities.
- If you reload 9mm, reloading for another caliber is relatively inexpensive as you have made most of your equipment investment (and climbed the learning curve) already.
- If you have your supplies (brass, primers, powder and lead), you control when you do/don't run out of ammo [stocking up on supplies isn't a bad idea either] and don't have to worry about availability. Think crisis situation again.

Cabellas is having a sale for 100@24.99+TX. ($0.2499ea)
I have reloaded frangible @ $0.095 ea.
I currently reload 124gr plated @ $0.1139 ea.
1/2 price? Always have ammo? No pinko-commie-ammo tax (yet)? Is it worth it?
Yes, YEs, YES, and YES! Worth it.
I remember during the last shortage, my family was one of the only FEW people at the range...

"Is it worth$$ reloading 9mm cost wise?" Yes. If you don't want to charge yourself labor costs. If you have access to range lead for free, and re-use brass. Make your own lead bullets, and powder coat them. And you are looking at $35 per THOUSAND for primers and powder. After reading post on reloading. Is it worth$$ reloading 9mm cost wise? "Or do you do it more for getting away from the family or adds to the hobby?" It is part of the hobby.
"I'm thinking of reloading but not sure if its worth the time and cost." Your time is certainly a consideration.
"I shoot only about 300 rounds a week." That is 15,000 per year. That is $2,000 a year in savings to roll your own.
"LAX has a good price on factory reloads." Yes, they do.Comment

The cheapest I can find 9mm ammo is 115gr blaster stuff at about $20 per 100. I am making 124 and 147gr loads at about $13 per 100.

If you're asking and haven't decided for yourself already, then probably reloading isn't for you.
Unless you're doing it wrong, you will always save by reloading.Comment

That's why you buy it cheap, and stack it deep!

I am still using powder that I bought at Gemco! I bought it for $7.99 a pound!
I have never had a problem with ammo or reloading supplies in all of the shortages!
And I shoot on a weekly basis!
Take care
