Is it worth reloading 9mm?

The money savings aren't that great on 9mm, but there are a lot of pluses to reloading. A lot have been said already but another to consider is that 10,000 rounds of 9mm is a lot smaller footprint in reloading supplies than finished rounds. Heck a big jug of Power pistol is like 17000 rounds of 9mm. Its a good long term storage option where you can make it as you shoot it.

I'd wager that 17,000 cases, bullets, primers and the quantity of powder required would most likely take as much space if not more.

It all changes in California after Jan 1 2017. If you don't have what you need now for reloading, it will probably be hard get stocked up on components then.

Not sure this is correct..can you elaborate and cite the source for the information? Reloading components may or may not be a part of the ammo bill that was passed for the first thing and I think that is in 2018 and not in 2017...can anyone correct me if I got this wrong...thanks

Got a little "throw out" about loading 9mm or pretty much anything else...I load a number of calibers, both handgun and long gun and I load up enough ahead of time to see me through a couple of trips to the range...I don't load large quantities ahead...reason? If I need to get some money or decide to not load any more (I'm older) I can always sell components but reloaded ammo has little to no value to most shooters and only has component value for breaking it down...I'd rather load for a couple of range trips and then have the components properly stored and when I'm starting to get low go ahead and load up another batch or two...I'd hate to have 20,000 rounds of anything and then have to sell it off or have my Wife need to sell it off and find it's go no real value other than for breaking it down.

Just a thought....I don't load 9mm as I bought a ton of factory ammo a while back at a really cheap price and I'd rather load for other calibers where the value really shows up...like my 45 Colt stuff..that's where it really pays off to load...same with rifle (I don't shoot 223 or 556 so don't know about those) but my 7mm, 25-06, 30-06 and 8mm stuff is very cost effective to load...

I load 45 ACP as I have a whole boatload of components for it and it's simple and quick..I don't load for my .40 as I don't like to load high pressure stuff at my age (another factor for not loading 9mm...) and I got a bunch of .40 at the same time as the crates of 9mm

Prior to Jan 1, 2017, I'd say that it didn't make sense to load 9mm unless you were already set to run it by incrementally adding 9mm dies to your existing set up. Now that the whole permit/registration ordeal is here, yes, I think it makes sense to load all cartridges as the cost in brick and mortar stores will only head higher.

Is it worth$$ reloading 9mm cost wise? LAX has a good price on factory reloads. Sure they are not perfect

I reload everything I shoot (except 22LR). Why would you settle for ammo that isn't perfect? Yes there is a lot of cheap crappy 9mm on the market but for the same money I get reliable good shooting ammo for a little investment of time.

The new ammo madness goes into effect on Jan 1 2018.
Until then, buy components or ammo as you can.
