Ive been Working doing 45 acp for a bit but just started reloading 30-06. Been looking around for an answer to this for an hour or two with very little luck (mostly because no one else would be dumb enough to make this series of mistake)
I went through and processed about 800 30-06 brass and just did my first 25 tonight. I do not have a case length gauge but got my brass trimmed properly. finished up my first 25 and went to chamber up a couple in the rifle to see how they would do. I was having a real hard time getting the bolt into place and after a bit of research I realized that I had not reformed the step down in the neck enough...
Being curious like I am I ran a couple through my sizing die with the decapper removed (I dont have a bullet puller so I cant dismount them anyway) and resized the neck down to where they chamber fine.
Now there is still a healthy ridge from the case mouth to the projectile, the OD of the case mouth does not mic up smaller that any of the ones I have not reloaded yet.
What do you guys think is the possibility of projectile deformation or excessive pressures in this situation?
